P.S. This supervised visit is cute tho:)
Crazy story, Derek. I am a vet tech at an animal shelter, & from what I have been taught- if a ferret bites you, you should not jerk your hand away (as normal reflex). Something about their bite they dig in harder. Sad about the husky.
I can believe it, Derek. I would never let him play with it unless someone was holding it. That way we could move away as soon as it turned into anything other than friendly sniffing. The second my dog lifted his paw to pat it, we took it away. He's small now, but when he's 80lb's it will be a whole different story. So we want to train him to be good with them while he's a puppy. And he won't see that ferret all that often.
Lauryn, I had 5 rats at one point, and 3 mice. They loved each other. The rats even treated the mice like smaller rats. They are brilliant. If I get them again, I'll spend the time to train them to do more tricks
Ya gotta be a bit careful when letting a ferret interact with any other animal. I have a friend who had a ferret. A really well trained and smart one too. She also had a husky. Anyways...one day they were playing and the husky cornered the ferret. I can only suppose this scared the ferret and sent him into feral survival mode, but the ferret attack the husky in a non-playful manner. It tore it's jugular vein right out and the poor dog bled to death in a matter of seconds. It happened far too quick for anyone to respond. People often don't realize the danger potential of a ferret. I didn't really until this happened. They're still great little animals though, I love em. I really love it when they get all worked up and do their little battle dance, haha.
Take care man.
Cutie ferret, i have 4 myself and 10 rats. Brilliant pets :D
