Welcome. It looks like Barrelady already said what I was going to. Listen to her. She gives good advice.

Welcome to the community Amanda and to this wonderful site on how to grow healthy and happy dreadlocks. Sorry to say, but you will have to get the wax out of your dreads if you want them healthy or want them to turn into mature dreads. Wax only glues the hair together, no matter how little was used, it stops them from being able to move around to mature. You can do one of two things only 3 weeks into your journey, either remove the dreads and get all the wax out using dawn dish soap and hot water, or use Wax B Gone, $15 from www.dreadlockshampoo.com

Wax holds in pollution, dirt, smells, pockets of water causing mold. Catches fire easily too & stains pillow cases and clothing. Dip your finger in warm wax, not put that finger in water...stays dry doesn't it...now how can dreads get clean if they are encased in wax, they don't....in the heat of the summer, the wax melts and moves all inside the dreads, you will never get them clean properly....Sorry about this news to you.

I bet you are stoked about having dreads, so lets get you off to a good start so you won't have problems in your future.....

if your water type is soft, you can use any dread shampoo or bar, but if it is hard water, many of those will not rinse out properly and slowly leave behind a residue. Shampoo and bars from the same company as the Wax B Gone has they best kind around that work in all water types. Below is a map so you can see what kind you have....peace

Welcome. Like eagle said, be careful with Dr. B's. or any castile soap for that matter. Dr. B's has become the go-to soap for locks, but most people don't know that castile soaps and hard water don't go together. It'll build up and leave residue in your locks. I'm sure Barrellady will come along with a map of the US to show you what your water quality is. But better yet, call your local water dept. and ask. You may be in a watershed with hard water, and 2 blacks away, they could be in a different watershed
