Can I use beads?

Yesterday I "officially" started neglecting my hair. When I think about it, I haven't actually combed my hair in about a week. I just washed it, threw it up in a messy bun and that's it. I've got some knots going in the back where I sleep on it and underneath looks like it's starting to section. I was wondering if its too soon to put beads in. Would beads help with the sectioning? Would it hinder the dreading process? I'm just so eager to decorate!
