Starting natural dreads

I have wanted to have dreadlocks since I was probably eight years old. I have been looking around on dread forums and the natural way seems like the best way. But there is a problem. I have no idea what I am doing! I don't know where to start since pretty much all the information I have found is on how to maintain natural dreads after 2 weeks and over. I am growing out my hair an it is pretty short at the moment. What do I want to do to start? I have a picture of my current hair too.
