I wear uniform in my job and I personally don't like it when your hair at the top looks like you have normal loose hair and the rest is dreads. I use the crochet needle to put new grown hair in the dreads. I don't crochet the lengths of the dreads themself, no need to because they are mature enough.

So technically I crochet my dreads every few cm one single time. 

dreads completely unmentained don't look appealing to me -as well as dreads too mentained.

but NEVER CROCHET!!!!! crochet causes extreme damage

1 use causes them to be visibly stiff for 3 years

1 use increases the ammount of frizz by 10 times due to all the thousands of broken hairs

you become a slave to fixing the damage you caused the last time

dreads dont need to be 'neat"   especialy for jobs  neatening them actualy eliminates your 1 and only legal defense

doing it only 2x a year at least is  rational and sane  but still very counterproductive  and just less damaging and destructive then doing it more often
