welcome. Rubber bands are a bad call. I know some people really like them. For them, I say, only put them in at the tips, and ONLY when you wash. But for real, Rubber bands restrict the movement your locks need to knot and tangle. If they can't move, they will never lock up.

they:

restrict movement needed to dread

after 2 days removing them undoes knots that formed ariundthem

after a week can be swallowed completely with no hope if getting them out

they can melt into a sticky mess (not from head from decomposing) they can break into tiny chunks leavings bits inside firever

they cause weak spots and permanent dents

u never should use rubber bands in dreads ever

Welcome. Check out the dreaducation page and the timeline forums The healthiest method is neglect. But you can TnR or back comb to get sections started. But the main thing is to not use wax, don't interlock, NEVER crochet, don't palm roll.

Just wash wash wash
