Welcome. Twisting is ok to start. But once you start them, it is VERY damaging to retwist. The traction alopecia that Adam mentioned leads directly to baldness. You should never see your scalp in between your locks in healthy locks

Welcome. If you continue to twist your dreads, it can lead to a condition called traction alopecia. Look it up. It basically results in huge bald patches. Once you have twisted your dreads, you should neglect them.

Welcome. Normal shampoo leaves residue which will weigh down your locks and can cause mold and mildew to grow in your locks. There are shampoos that are perfect for locks. If you have soft water, Dr. Bronners is great. But the soaps from dreadlockshampoo.com are the best.

All you need to do to keep locks from growing together is to rip them apart. There's no reason to put anything on the tips
