Welcome to the site, it sounds like dreads are meant for you and your free lifestyle.
Castile soap leaves a residue/soap scum in dreads if used with hard water. Dreadlockshampoo.com has wonderful soaps made for hard water.
a home made recipe is what I have used this past year, it is scrub free and works wonderful for exfoliating the scalp. Mix 1/2 cup of Baking Soda with 5 cups water, pour on head and wait 10-20 minutes. No need to scrub, just wait the allotted time and then rinse really really well. Next you will want to condition the hair after using the BS. Mix 1-2 capfuls of Apple Cider Vinegar in 5 cups of water, pour on head and rinse off right away, keep on no longer than 1 minute. The ACV conditions the hair and balances the PH, you hair will feel softer.
Careful what shampoos you use, most WILL leave a residue. If you are not sure, type in the shampoo name in the site search bar and you can read what others have posted about it.
