I believe you when you say about shrinkage, its almost like loosing 2 thirds of your hair length just like in these pics I saw here the other day,WOW! There does come a time when it stop shrinking and they start to relax and grow down again. You,re really lucky your dreads are shrinking up, some people get thin dreads that only matt but don't sjrink up for the thickeness. It means you have have real matture looking dreads sooner, from now on the hair that is growing will tangle with the hair you would usually loose in your brush, which adds thickeness.
It already looked like your dreads were years old, you have very thick hair by the looks of it, mine is so fine and in answer to your question I had my dreads really crudely sectioned and I asked for thick dreads so the section had to be big for my fine hair to produce thick dreads, I had 22 dreads when they were done, my hair was waist length and shrunk up to my first pics I have here on DLS. I loved them sooo much when they were first done, cigar sized dread but mine tightened up and got skinney, even though it was a good sign I didn't want them to thin out! Had to cut some of my sectioning as it was too big and ended up with about 34 dreads. Now i'm thinking about having dreads at the front too, I have brown sheeps wool and used it alot in the beginning to weigh my dreads down, I did love the near shoulder length just like the pic of the girl here but would never cut my now more mature dreads.
Sometimes i think about what would of happened if I did let my hair dread up naturally, I just couldn't understand what would happen to the sections, if i left my dreads alone they would all congo into 1 huge matt!
To see progressive pics of shrinkage it would pay to go look at this girls page the transition pics blew me away!
Did u just use natural method from beginning?
Thank u soo much Sweet! No, my fam doesnt have dreads! LOL! Wish they did! I use the hair i cut off of them to add extensions on the one's that are super short, which is damn near all og them at this point. Im having extreme shrinkage goin on, they've shrunk up to mid-back since this photo, only a few weeks ago. My transitional extensions r human hair, so they're shrinking just as bad! LOL, but yeah ur right some of them I dont think I'll ever be able to cut off once they grow out. I have one with my nieces hair, so even tho some r extended they're still very sentimental to me. The tube beads I make, so that's why I have so many decorations in my hair. I am glad u like it. I should show u my pic from the previous month. The difference is phenomenal. I'm in aww of how fast mine are changing, but knew they would do good since my hair was doing it naturally when I was combing it everyday. Mine is wavy/curly, but super coarse it seems. knots up easily.
Oh no this is not me, I saw this picture here on DLS but wanted to turn the picture around as it was posted sideways I liked it so much, wish they were my dreads.
It must be neat having a family with dreads, I recon I would swap too its something unique we dreadies can do and with it being a spiritual journey it would feel like you had a part of your closest with you!
Mandi your dreads are awsome! Just love the colours too, curlier hair does have its way with dreading, mine is wavy and I have my lumps and bumps that eventually iron out with age. My dread journey started about nearly 2 years ago and I still have new ones coming through.
I suppose its time to re do some more pics of my dreads. I couldn't believe how much your had grown and changed Taye with your last photo shoot.
Thank u Sweet for liking my photo, and Taye! Much appreciated.Mandi
No some of them are mine, and some of them are extensions from my 2 sister's and mom, where I cut their hair for them. My hair is naturally curly, and curled up on itself creating 2-3 inch huge paddles in several places. Looked crazy, so I tried to even it out a bit. I just took 3 out tho cause my dreads are thickening up, and the extended parts dont match in size anymore. I'm only at 5 mos, but I guess due to my hair type I'm progressing faster then expected.
Peace Out,
Mandi
or is that you? I like them!!
very colorful! I see you added extensions.
