You don't want them too tight to start with! Most people try to get them really tight but from what I was told as long as they will stay in the first 4 to 5 washes then they will be fine they need a bit of room to knot up! And they will get worst before they get better! But it's like I said keep an eye on them and have some beads to drift around im sure they will do fine. My hair is think and pritty straight didn't want to knott at all at first but give'um time to do what it need to do and they soon matured up nice!
the hemp actually helped my hair knot up, the problem was as it knotted and as the hemp got worn down (multiple washes breaks down hemp twine) the fibers got interwoven with knotting hair and pulled up into the dread which on one pulled on the dread making it fold in on itself and other things like that. flat leather should be fine. hemp twine, just keep an eye on it. and i had done mine in a criss-cross but when you where it awhile it slips, gets knotted on itself, etc. which also makes it harder to get off.
i could see how the hemp would stop it from knotting if you tie i together! but if the lock is mature i couldn't see it doing to much damage i've got two wraps in my hair made from leather done as a criss cross paten they dry quick so i cant see them rotting! what did they do to your hair as i've had my wraps in for a few week if they are going to mess my hair up it would be great to know before it happens to mine? you could teach me something!
Yea I don't plan on crocheting. I do plan on letting hem do their thing but keeping them seperated. I'm hoping having rubberbands at the roots for a couple weeks will help and there's always tying them with hemp and beads like you said. Though with the hemp I learned the hard way you don't leave that stuff on for more than a couple washes. Bad idea.

The best thing to do once you have back combed them in is just leave them! I also had some beads that I moved around if one felt like it was comeing lose I would slip a bead on just to hold it in for a while! My hair doesn't like knotting well these are my second batch now and they seem to be loving life I hope this helps! Just don't crochet them it will make things worse. Lol
Right
