I took my bands out loooong ago, guys. Thanks for the advice, though. I did research and realized they were bad after almost a week of having them tnr'd and took them out immediately. The plastic coating on the outside had already started to melt into my hair, and I had a hard time getting out a few because of that. They left a plastic film against my hair that I pretty much had to pick out with my fingernails. Not fun!!
So, yes. No worries. The bands are no longer there!
Hey Sarah. You also did twist and rip like I did. It is necessary to allow the sections to loosen in order for them to dread, they slowly shrink shorter, so the elastics must come out. They also do damage, causing weak spots, not allowing hair to drip dry properly and keeping the hair tight so they can move to dread. Expect hem to change in appearance soon, they will kink, loop, eventually shorten and even look like you were in a wind storm. That's the process.... worth the journey.
take those rubber bands out!!
