Welcome Ryan, glad you found this site to learn about healthy dreadlocks. Yes, your hair will be okay if you don't crochet again. The only maintenance you need to do from here on in to to wash them 2-3 times a week, separate any sections trying to join onto each other to avoid congos and to let them do their own thing. At some point you will have a case of the frizzies, those broken hairs will start poking out. Have faith, let them be, they will eventually get back inside and not have the frizzy look to them. Like Soaring Eagle said, it will take months for them to get stronger, and they will. If you also used wax, that will have to be removed, as dreads never mature when they are glued together. Let us know if you need it removed or read this post: http://www.dreadlockssite.com/page/dread-wax-removal-is-finally

I am not sure where you live, so here is a map of the States to show the water types. I have one of Canada if needed. Many dread shampoos do not work properly in hard water, they slowly leave behind residues, so if you have hard water, I recommend Dreadlockshampoo.com products, made by a member, Vickie, on this site. If you have soft water, your options are open, many choices out there for you to use, although you can still use Vickies.

So don't worry, you are on the right track just being here. .....peace

thank you Exxxon, I never thought of making a huge drum from a full size barrel, you have put the though in my head and that will be my summer project for myself. I know you are in California, but what type of place do you recommend to purchase a skin for the drum. I did watch the show Mythbusters and on one episode they made a drum to see if the sound traveled underground.I know to soak it first (did they add salt to the water?), then to put in on wet, attach it and let it dry to shrink. Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated. Just by reading your comment I am stoked to make one.....peace

Oh yes, I do know to shave the hair also,

Welcome. Good luck. I can't wait to see some pics.

Why do you start a timeline from now to when they are mature
