I can so relate to your choice to wear only flowing clothes, Taye. I've been feeling so restricted by tight clothing lately, like jeans and the like. I'm just trying to figure out a way to wear some sweater tights or stocking beneath a heavier skirt, for winter months, and not build up static cling. : P
I went to the Salvation Army this past week, and bought a pretty skirt (since I don't have any good fabric for making one right now), and a really adorable Boho Hippie style dress to wear with my vintage boots. I do wear tennies to walk in, for exercise, but other than that...in warm weather...I wear flip flops. Living on an island, it seems to fit. : )
Thanks again for all your help and comments. I'm so happy I ran across your profile. : ) Such a Blessing!
Wow! What a lovely little kitchen garden (poteger) you have there, Taye. That basil looks so good, I wish I could reach out and snap off a few bits, and blend up some yummy pesto. : ) I keep a small garden too. I'll be replanting for my cold frame in the coming weeks.
Thanks, Taye...for the T-Shirt tip. : ) I planned on doing something like this with old sweaters...for the colder months. Also, since I love to sew, I will be working on some new dreadie fashion rags.
Reading about how long your hair was pre-dreads, and how much length the new dreads gobbled up, makes me realize I just need to sit back and not worry about a thing. I'm in for a loooong dread-ride. haha
I too, plan on making some lovely skirts to wear...pretty much, in place of jeans. My taste is changing--I am evolving into another woman; a much freer woman. I couldn't be more happy about that! I've also been studying the Chakras, meditation and symbolic site. Trying to make time to practice yoga again. Having my young'n sure keeps me busy. She is five now, and I homeschool. I feel so very Blessed to be able to stay home and teach her in a relaxed, cozy environment; our tiny caravan abode. : )
Today is a good day! I'm feeling very positive about the choices I am making at this point in my life, and I feel fortunate for the changes that seem to be finding me. It's such a gift to befriend kindred Spirits like you. I am so glad I ran across your profile. Your comments and encouragement mean the world to me.
Thank you Taye for loving the pic of the colourful dreads, I just re posted it upright, am now having a conversation with her about her dreads and she says they have shrunk so much, thought they were already years old!
we were driving somewhere..you were behind the wheel and i think there were 4 or 5 ppl in the car
everyone was talkingabout something boring like movie or music awards or something and uu said "you know who else was nominated? shit theres a cop on our tail' (i thought thats a weird name for a band/movie) just then you floored it a and swerved into the oncoming lane then i heard sirens and you skidded across 3 lanes smashing into barrels and ending up sideways across the oncoming lane
the cop pulls up on a motorcycle and yells turn that the f__k around and getout
you started to turn it arpundand i woke up but expecting u to try to outrun the motorcycle again
and i think it was all cause u had a single joint in the car..lol
What a silly twollop i am - I meant DLS Dreadlockssite, after googling rainbow gatherings i would click on th pics and they would come up with dreadlockssite on them. I could just emagine you living smwhere in the country in the hills, nice quiet lifestyle. I too am the oddity here in Hokitika, i live as much in the country aS I can on a couple of acres of land with some bush, my hubby and i are building a tiny wooden hut in the middle of the bush to give the illusion of being in the remote bushland. When my kids r grown i will be going smwhere totally remote and deep in the forest, alot of people think i'm nuts here - but really thank God that most think like that or everyone would have the same idea!
Just looking at your pics going by i see you have a black frypan and bread baking dishes nailed to the wall, while i have my black fry pans hanging above the coalrange, i think i'll do the same thing with my bread or cake baking tins, i love the look, also i have a wooden ladder hung up from the ceiling in which i hang alot of pots and pans, gives that country feel.
Glad you had a great time at the Rainbow gathering - wish they had them here!
Well that is a compliment if you see a resemblance in our hair, I just love the natural brown dreads with maybe a bit of lighter wheat type of colour at the ends. I just googled 'Rainbow getherings' and they look so great, don't know if we have anything like that here in NZ, they really look like my type of thing, no wonder SE loves them so much.
Now i will take a mental note of the age of my dreads, as i have given them the odd trim just to mainly get the sheeps wool out i was so surprized to see they have got to a descent length, don't think i'll ever be 1 of those people who grown their dreads down to their knees but i do like just a bit shorter than your length for me, now i'm a 51 year old i suppose longer would look silly, i would love to add some more wraps and beads but there again not too many as to not take awat that natural look, even though the type of beads etc would be made of either wood or some tyupe of natural thing.
Thank you for taking such an interest, with day to day life so bussy with the kids and all, it is really nice to stop for a moment and talk with like minded people about how our dreads r going. Even though it is a life style it still keeps me in tough with why i'm doing or growning my dreads, theres not many people here with dreads and can be fround apon from time to time here.
There seems to be a connection between the rainbow gatherings and DLS, as the pics i coppied had this address? Heres some examples.
Dearest Taye - what a morning i have have loading ip some pics of my dreads!!!!! After breaking out in a sweat a few times and having a couple of meltdowns i've finally got a few pics of me and my dreads. No wonder i don't do this often, it is in this case the library computer, usually it all goes fine and i love getting progress pics of other people dreads, i can make the others bigger too, its just i've ran out of time today but i will make these pics bigger as it shows the dreads much better. I had to first load the pics from my ipad to my face book to then get them on here! Will have to figure how to do copy and paste with an ipad!
Thank you so much dear friend for inspiring me to do this, i really am so happy i did it.
This is the first time i am looking at the THREAD of our comments and can for the first time see more clearly from when i first had my dreads done, because i have given them the odd trim they r not that much longer, also with having to split some i had to sew on coloured sheeps wool to the side where i had to cut through the big sections. You r more in touch with the length of time my dreads were first done, WOW, but now looking at this thread i see what you mean. Oh yes i am sure going to load some more pics, i gave my dreads a good wash last night ready for (oops I don't know if this is good to mention) a colour, i do see people colour their dreads here so i think its OK, i recon using hennas is a natural thing though, my dark roots with grey don't look at all nice with the more natural rustic light brown with lighter ends. I just can't give the colouring up yet, this is why i love the colour of your dreads so much - so natural, of course i know its your own colour and not from a bottle like mine! When i've done the colour i will then do the pics and yes please load some more pics of your dreads, i love going to your page to have a look, i'm like you and have to get smone to specialy take some photos, i've already told my kids to do this for me in the next couple of days, maybe your daughter could do yours. Your dreads were already quite long so they must be almost to your waist by now, i won't let mine grow down until i know i have my dreads completely sorted out, looking at the pics on this thread my dreads r the same length now as they were then! Soon agter the pics my dreads stretched sooo much and went very thin and my sections were still very big, but as i said so much hair came away from those sections and gave birth to new ones, hope i'm not going on too much its just when it comes to dreads i could talk all day.
Dearest Taye - I have just seen your message to me from Monday, don't know how i missed it as i visit DLS daily. Yes its a year and a half i only realize it now that you have mentioned it, i still so love my dreads and remember when we were talking about how many dreads we hade and that i only had 22, well now i have over 34, don't know what happened! I did exactly what you said and let mine just go and do what they wanted and forgot about the sectioning, they arn't as thick as yours, if anything they have split up and thinned down, so now i have more loose hair to still dreads up but i'm just letting it do what it needs to. I am still so loving your dreads, they are still the ideal for me, when i see you get round on DLS i sometimes come to see your page and how your doing or if you have added any pics. Now that its 1.5 years i will post some more pics, when i first had my nice fluffy fatter baby dreads i loved it, but they soon stretched out and hardened when they got tighter, so i have given them a trim hoping they would fatten up again so there won't be a difference much in length, but what is there is real natural dread - yay! I don't think i could ever be dreadless again! I will get my kids to take some good pics and get them to DLS in the next few days, now i'm going to have a look at your pics.
Thank you for messaging me, i do think about how your getting on from time to time.
Thanks, and no, the government in Egypt doesn't mind my dreads, actually people here like them a lot. It's Saudi Arabia, the place where i live that opposes any personal freedom at all and seems to think that my dreads represent some sort of anti-islamic cult (which they don't). Whenever the police sees me they immediately have to search my car for drugs. I mean people need to start realizing that dreadlocks DO NOT represent weed or any other kind of drug.
oh yes so am i! i want to grow old with these babehs:) yeah no interlocking for me! maybe it looks that way cause i have reddish and brown tones in my roots maybe the lighting hit it weird? well, i made sure to leave as many of my roots loose as i could cause i know thats what gives them room to do their thang!
