I was doing really well tracking my progress, then life came up! :P
Things have been going wonderful here, but very busy! Trying to spend a lot of time outdoors and enjoy the weather before it changes! :D
Today marks the 52nd day of not brushing for me! :D
Lots of little knotty things happening underneath my hair! I don't really do anything to my hair, no palm rolling, I don't even section my hair.
I do brush my bangs, but only because I have to be able to get my hair out…
What do dreads look like that have string or wool thread or yarn stuck in them? Does anyone have any advise or pictures they can share? Thanks!

I've been bearded for as long as I can remember, and I've kept it big and bushy for the past 10 years. I started to fool around with letting the beast dread about 5 years ago, but I've never gone longer than four months before pulling out the old hair brush. When I started last May, I never thought I’d make it past six months let alone an entire year! I now realize that I've been changed for the better in the process!…Continue

Hi, I just joined this site and was wondering if anyone out there could give me suggestions on how I should start off; I am clueless but have been reading things on here which has helped ALOT and making me excited to do the natural way on my own rather than a salon. My hair is meduim curly hair. Should I comb after I wash or at all; Do I use specific shampoo(s); NEVER leave it in a bun or pony tail; is there teasing that should be done; should I leave it down the whole time during the first…Continue
So upon, some kinda fate or something, I have decided to stop retwisting my dreads. My loctician was great and she never did any harm to me, but now she has moved into another state and I was retwisting on my own for a while. After joining this site again (I was a member once before), I realize that I always wanted free, strong, uncontrolled dreads, but I kept being told that I have to make them look better by retwisting and such. Today I have made the choice to stop and just let these…Continue

New dreads. twist and rip. couple days old
new to the site and new to dreadlocks. just dreaded my hair with twist + rip method about 3 days ago. had extremely straight smooth hair beforehand. they feel like theyre locking up well, it takes time and i'm fine with that, but does anyone have any hints/tips for healthy new dreadlocks? any help is much…Continue
16yrs going strong. I knew once my hair started locking that I was in it for eternity. For me my dreadlocks mean freedom. I am free to be me and to love me for what comes out naturally. I have faced many confrontations and giggles and snide comments behind my back waiting in line at grocery stores, people shouting out of their windows "You nappy headed nigger" but you know I have become immune to all of their negativity. It bounces right off of my aura because I truly love who I am and know…Continue

Hello everybody. I am brand new to the dread community here and would like to introduce myself: I am a curly-haired man and am very excited to start my journey. I already backcombed 10 dreads on the side of my head tonight. The dreads seem very loose and tend to undo themselves. Any advice on how to stop this from happening, or how to tighten up the locks quicker? I heard palm rolling with salt helps them lock up. Right now I love…Continue
So I'm up to about 25 dreads now. I've been casually adding them in with the t&r method whenever my hair has started to clump together in the back.
Tonight, I'll be giving the baking soda wash a try for the first time. Prior to this, I've just been using the neutrogena anti-residue shampoo to get all the extra crap out of my hair. I'm pretty excited to give this a try, as is my scalp.
You can see by my bangs how much my dreads have shrunk.
Main problem is the patience, some are good days some are frustrating! But it's all about letting go so I am striving for that. That and the occasional itching. I have a water bottle with tea tree and peppermint I spray as needed, and my hair smells like a candy cane after ;) That combo works wo
nders for me.…Continue

I started my dreads with the TnR method and I believe it was the best choice to start my dreads. I didn't do perfect sectioning I just grabbed hair and went with it, so I have different sizes and I love it. My goal is messy dreads and that is exactly how they are turning out. I'm not doing any maintenance to them except washing my deads every 3 days or so because I live in the desert and its hot and dirty ha. So just an FYI I love the natural method after I started with the TnR. A lot of my…Continue

Well my friends, here I am at 14 months into my journey, my dreads are finally not so wild looking anymore. Hopefully in 6 more months they will be fully mature. My bangs aren't dreading, but that's okay, maybe one day they will. Enjoying everything I have been through so far, wild ride and all, everything I have learned and everything that has yet to come....Peace…Continue
