Well my friends, here I am at 14 months into my journey, my dreads are finally not so wild looking anymore. Hopefully in 6 more months they will be fully mature. My bangs aren't dreading, but that's okay, maybe one day they will. Enjoying everything I have been through so far, wild ride and all, everything I have learned and everything that has yet to come....Peace…

I'm currently around like month 3 in letting my hair grow out. So since I don't comb it anymore, I'm not quite sure how long it actually is now. Encouraging enough, I'm starting to feel 2 or 3 long twisties separating from the rest of the fro. The thing is, when I sleep I turn a lot. So the back of my head and the sides are all mushed down, while the top is sticking out because I guess I never lay on the top.. That'd be pretty weird. Anyways it's not like I go to school or work right now,…

3 months!
Tomorrow it will officially be 3 months with my (soon to be) dreads! I am just a bit concerned that they are not growing properly. They have gotten more loose and I do not know if that is normal. A few people offered to tighten them up, but I am not sure if that is a good idea. I just want my potential dreads to be healthy. If anyone has any insight or advice, it will be much appreciated! Thank you!

I wrote this essay on my dreadlocks for school, my teacher said it was his favorite :0 but ignore my grammatical errors haha
You need to look clean cut to get a job. You need to smell good to attract friends. You need to sit like a lady to be respected. You need to comb your hair. Boys are not going to like you if you do not comb your hair. We consume these ideals because we are afraid of not being accepted, we are afraid of being ourselves. What is even worse is that our peers or our…

Dreading process has begun!
So last night, with my best friend, we did my dreads. It took us from around 10pm-5am. We sectioned, put the rubber bands in, then backcombed. I helped so we did two dreads at a time so it went faster than expected. Which I'm very happy about! She did an amazing job on my dreads, she's so great.
I'm worried though because the ones that I did, are not as tight as the ones she did. This might be due to the fact that my fine tooth comb was terrible. I tried re-doing some of them with…

Haven't dreaded just yet...
I'm very excited to start my dreading journey. I have an appointment to get my hair dyed on Tuesday, back to my original natural hair color. I want my dreads to be with my natural hair color because what's gonna happen when my hair grows back out? I'll have blonde bits on top & the rest will be brown & I don't want that at all. So I'm going to dye it back to it's natural color & then near my birthday (March 25th) I will be starting my dreading journey! I'm very anxious. The other…

I was wondering what kind of comments everyone has gotten about their dreads. I usually get a comment every time I go out in public. Sometimes, maybe 2-5 comments in a day! Mostly are positive like, "I love your hair!" or "Sweet dreads!". I noticed I get negative attention when I go to hair salons. I work in a group home so I take my clients to get their hair cut from time to time. Today I went to a salon and my clients beautician asked me how long I had been dreading. I told her I had been…

i have just finished the first three weeks of my dreads, and they are turning out really nice..
i used the twist and rip method to make dreads, the locks i made unfortunately almost opened up by the end of the first week, but i also noticed that they have started to group themselves on their own, so very carefully i separated the newborn strands and ripped them again.. :D....so this way my hair was now ripped in the way it wanted to be, …

Hi all here is my story.2 weeks ago i decided to force some congos with beads and wraps.Yeah it felt great having some thick ones even though they werent connected yet.Soon I discovered its really a major change to my 11 months old routine.Washing:I was lucky to have my dreads air dry within 3 hours but after congos it doubled to 6 hours. Sleeping:a little discomfort but wasnt that bad. Freedom:Ive never realized how much i like my hair to move all these crazy directions while you naturally…

It's been a week since I started my dreadlock journey. I feel so happy right now. My hair is dreading really fast. I have a couple of sections that are dreaded at the ends but all the roots are still undreaded. There's something happening at the roots also, they are starting to twist.
Here's some examples of my sections that are dreading:…

The Beginning of Forever
I have been a long-time admirer of dreadlocks. I don't know that I paid much attention to them in regards to myself, but I certainly took notice. My hair was chemically relaxed when I was 9 or ten years old. My hair was long and full and incredibly thick. I was too young to really have much of an opinion about my hair since I wasn't doing it myself, but I always felt prettiest when I wore my hair styled curly.
I thought about getting dreadlocks before I even thought about getting rid…

I've started my natural dreadlock journey after all, though I had many doubts about it. Today is the 5th day of not brushing or combing my hair. So nearly a week, which isn't much though but it's an accomplishment for me. I have a couple parts of my hair that has formed tangles and even small loops but the rest of my hair is just staight. It's weird when the ends of some parts of my hair are tangled but rest of the hair is untangled. My hair gets tangled pretty easily, it has been a…

For me, dreadlocks were less a matter of chasing a hairstyle I'd always wanted to a desire for having my long hair again. I grew up with long hair--my mother didn't let me cut it so I experienced some pretty awful hair days for a while and defintely very awkward hair moments. I do, however, think there's something appealing about long hair. It looks good to me but because I'm mixed, long hair was always an issue. My mother was fond of vaseline as a hair product.
When I got older I…

New to Dreads
I have been seeing dreads more and more lately and all it has been doing is making me want them more and more. I was finally able to meet up with my friend and she gave me 4 little dreads at the bottom of my hairline. I love them so much already! I only wanted to do partial dreads, so we weren't sure how many to start with. I want several more already. I have an attachment to them. I think they are adorable and cannot wait for them to mature. I am going to toy with the idea of adding another…

I'm very irritated because i have to separate everyday, because the tips of my sections and dreads are so curl and them start knotting on others distant sections curled tips...
1/3 of the time i separate my hair, i broke some hair, and undo some of the progress... There's no other way [i've seen the separating tutorial here], and this is just f*cking annoying... now i have more and more frizz and more loosened sections...
and i have to separate, because i don't want…

So I put a few of my friends hair in my dreads and I tied one of my friends hair in there with string and I guess I left a rubber band in there.
So today I decided to cut out the string and where the rubber band was, is this gunky stuff. It doesn't smell and now that part of the dread is kind of weak :(
It's my favorite dread, I hope it goes away. …
