When I was a little girl in this big world I didn't believe everything my parents or other grown-ups told me.
My mom told me I had the type of hair that just doesn't grow. And praised my brother for his thick coarse hair and how much faster his hair grew than mine and how much longer his hair was as compared to mine.
But then I questioned her about her assumptions. How could she say such things when every time she would comb my hair yanking at it I would see tons of hair in…

HELP !!!
I started my dreads on New Years Eve.. I had them professionally crocheted 3 times so far since then. I haven't been back in almost 2 months because I heard how bad it was. The lady also had me using hair glue and I can't get it out.. my head itches constantly and I've used baking soda but I usually use dr. bronners residue free shampoo once a week. Also.. is there any way to speed up progress and tighten up my ends and roots? I see on here everyone is so far along after a few months and…

Today I celebrate my 14yr. freeform dreadlocks anniversary. In 1998 I began my journey into becoming more of my natural self by leaving the combs, brushes, commercial shampoos,etc... behind me. I have learned quite a bit about my hair that I was not aware of. Mainly that I don't need to do anything but keep them clean and they will form all on their own.
I have dealt with a lot of negativity in the beginning but…

Ok. So... To start off I should say that the dreads I started on March 13th were brushed out and redone on May 29th. They're looking and feeling amazing and I'm really happy to have them ^-^ This is only relevant because of something I find to be incredible.
Eleven days ago I found out that I'm pregnant! :] I'm five weeks and four days along and you know what day they count from? May 29th! So my dreadies are also five weeks and four days old <3 I just thought it was pretty…

People (and animals) of the Rainbow
As suggested to me by several people I have done a lot of looking into Rainbow Gatherings and although couldn't make it this year I will another. It's funny how when your doing the right thing there are blatant "signs" if you will. A friend of mine who had natural (neglect) dreads for 16 years and recently cut them off called me up to come over and catch up at there house/ small farm. I started telling him that since becoming partially (sometimes completely) disabled I have really been able…

Dread Journey
From June 22nd- day one till NOW, um, July 3rd... it's been a week and a half since I've had my WHOLE head dreaded.. and I am lovin' every minute of it.
I even got a COMPLIMENT on my locs today at IHop!
Washing time is cut 3/4.. I only wash my hair like once a week, with about 2 Tbsp baking soda dissolved in about a quart of water scrubbed into scalp. I rinse it with clean water and then pour over a mix of about 2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar with about 4 Tbsp Sea…

Last week me and my family went camping at Peninsula Campground. Nothing like camping a few steps away from the Folsom Lake.
By day we swam in the river, walked around taking photos of lizards and weird looking bugs.
By night we listened to sweet rhythmic music of the cricket songs. They were chanting so melodically that it helped to distract my ears from the somewhat annoying sound of the ducks. The ducks made sounds like they were unhappy dogs barking…
