Drying dreadlocks after washing

Started this discussion. Last reply by ExaltHimx7 Dec 1, 2011. 4 Replies

How do you guys dry your hair after a wash? In the summertime I usually just go outside for a while, but now that the weather is turning I'm having to go back to hot air methods. Bummer. Occasionally…Continue

"Soaking can be a pain in the neck -- literally. Get a big bowl, get ready to do a big of shower yoga to get all the areas of your hair/scalp in it. I like to put a large pot in my deep kitchen sink and lean over into it to soak, using a cup or bowl…"

Call me eLPea

Hey, look, I'm on the banner! I like to ride skateboards, take pictures, drink beer, and go to Burning Man.

My lovely locks began their lives as many backcombed sections on March 23, 2010. I am happy that I combed them in, because it gave me some control over their size and placement. However dreadlocks have a mind of their own, and my hair is dead straight, so many sections came apart and joined themselves into larger locks. I currently have 74 locks, and and odd lock that ends in a braid just for shits'n giggles.

Send me your questions about deep cleaning, dreading straight hair, dealing with loose hairs, and dip-dyeing and I'd be happy to help.
How long have you been dreading?
since 3/23/10
Dreading methods, maintenance, and products used (if you currently have dreads)
combed them in. rip 'em apart when they get too big. love, scalp massages, baking soda washes, vinegar rinses and the occasional dr. bronner's wash when they're dirty but i can't be bothered with baking soda/acv.

Thanks for the warning! Hehe. Yeah I've decided to let my hair go and see what happens. It is pretty short but I'll just cross my fingers. I might start a blog on here I guess and join in the fun! :)

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I think I'm gonna have to wait until my hair grows longer before I try to get them naturally. Does backcombing hurt? Or does any of the other tool methods hurt? I suppose it'd be worth it anyway. I've got a lot of researching to do! Thanks heaps :) ☮

Yea still trying to let it dread, going the natural neglect way, good lesson in patience! The back is starting to come together but can't see whats going on back there so just try to keep them from crossing and locking into the unidread! This is my first year and looking forward to early entry and seeing the city grow and build up around me! Had ticket last year but some last minute issues kept me from going. Safe journeys, hope to see ya on the Playa!
