does dread head hq shampoo ruin dreads, or does it do what it says it does?

i like it, i use it and swear by it. you do use a lot, but i also use a lot more water to saturate my dreads than i did to wet my hair, so i figure it stands to reason that i may use more shampoo. it…

I have just started palm rolling my flatties and all , in the shower with the hot water hitting them.....it can be compared to felting yarn in the washing machine. the agitation, friction, water will help the process, I have found kat

5 months

well, i have been happy with the dreads for a month or so, than they began to change more.

one day when i was thinking about the sqiggle phase, i thought about palm rolling them like a bit of yarn, felting the squiggles and now they are more uniform, dense, strong and hard and that was cool.
i did palm-rolling after they were really wet and used hot water as i could stand.

now the 3 inches or so of loose hair is getting like this dread patch from like the dread to my head and the underside is… Continue

2.5 months update

well, through the second month, I mostly did not dig my dreadies too much.
They sort of did what they wanted and it was sort of freaky to me.
I bought these break-away rubber bands from dreadlock HQ and they are awesome.
i can use them and not worry because they weaken and pop off usually within a month and they are not as torturous as the rubber bands they offer with their dreadhead kit.
I am really so so glad i took the wax out....thank you, SE, you saved me from this ignorantl… Continue

matting up

Well, I have really started matting up.
My sections from the beginning stay, although deflated after all the waxing i did to them.
MY hair is really taken to matting in the back since i have been "washing" them in a thick baking soda wash.
it gets a bit gross on the first day, all that baking soda dust falling out, sort of itchy on my shoulders and back.
Plus, I think is others see it they will think i have horribly dander :o
But after a day or so, the dust settles and i have some really substan… Continue

6weeks into dreads

well, I have been washing my hair with warm water and baking soda once a week.
it really helps the process, i think!
i have pretty good sectioning when i feel them.
They are matting nicely.
They are curling and curving and squiggling all about.
I am really digging the organic nature of this process!

one day soon i will take a pic.
they are shortening up a lot and more all the time.
i just love them!

:)

Thanks. it was a lot of ripping and encouraging. The loose hairs on top eventually work in as they get longer but i always have the bed head up top :)

No don't use anything! Twist and Rip was all it took for my stick straight over conditioned hair! Product just adds build up! Twist and rip slowly starting at the roots and working your way down the length of the hair starts them just a little tighter!!! Then forget you have hair and maybe get a wool tam! Mine were locking and tightening in 2 weeks!
