In my haste for dreads, I fell into the DreadHeadHQ/KnottyBoy way, so I wasted my money buying a comb and some wax and backcombed them. Found this site like 12 hours later, got the wax out and let them do their own thing :)

A Battle With My Self-Esteem

Posted on June 12, 2012 at 2:24pm 7 Comments

Well, dreading my hair has been the best thing I could've done in terms of my confidence as well as my outlook, patience, etc. It's such a cliche, I know, but it's true, it's helped me a lot. All in things I never expected it to make any difference with. That said, there's one thing it can't really help with, and that's feeling self-conscious over my eczema/sores. I have this huge, deep sore on my forehead at the moment, and I went out today and no-one even looked at me twice. It's a huge…

Combed Out Three of my Dreads

Posted on April 8, 2012 at 10:28pm 4 Comments

Most of my dreads are quite stiff, and a couple of them have hard spots. I assumed the worst: WAX. So I combed out one of the thin-ish, only half-way dreaded ones out, expecting to see the horrors of waxy remains...but no. There was literally nothing there. So I dunno why they're stiff or anything. Anyway, I decided to comb a couple more out, mostly the ones in the front/middle, because...the ones in the middle are basically forced into sections that don't feel right, and I get the feeling…

Middle-of-the-Night Thoughts on Meat-Eating and non-Meat-Eating.

Posted on March 23, 2012 at 11:28pm 27 Comments

I was just thinking today about the whole meat-eating, vegetarian, vegan thing, and I had this quite interesting thought come to mind. First of all, I'm not bashing anyone's lifestyle choice or beliefs. I think it's worthy of huge respect to make a transition into something different from how you usually live. I have Coeliac disease, and even with my own well-being as motivation, the transition to a gluten-free diet has been very difficult. So...no-one reading this be offended, it's really…

Oh no, I hope it's not severe health issues?  At least you have a puppy to keep you company though.  Animals do so much for the psyche, especially when you are having ailments.  1 of my 3 cat babies passed in June and I feel so lucky to have had the other 2 in my life to help get me past the loss and all the stress that comes to me in recent times.

Anyhoo, everything is going pretty well on my end.  Just got accepted to Uni and trying to get the ball rolling on that transition.  Also getting geared up for the Renaissance Faire (I work for the Northern California faire each season.)  So, my plate is pretty full but I'm enjoying every bite.  :D

Hi Tara!! Im fine , how are you? I started my locs with a very loose twist(pratically loose hair just sectioned) and i secured the very ends by making a small braid knot so that they will not unravel. Within that same week I begin to wash my hair with besan and putting a light film of coconut oil once dried. Thats it! I also separate the roots but they are kanoodling so much together its becoming a chore. How is your journey so far? And how did you start?

Yeah I have seen a few people with horribly waxy dreadlocks and I feel bad for them now that I know what I do. If I had seen this site before I would have just bought a "rat tail teaser" comb from a beauty supply, would have saved at leasy $20. Umm I literally used THE smallest amount on the dreads that I did use it on and I'm hoping it is out by now, I can't feel any wax but you never know about the inside of it. I'm just going to let them do their thing though, take comparison photos as they mature. Hopefully I won't have the end up cutting out the 4 ones I used wax on..

How are you?!
