welcome i would advise you not retwist i know youve had them 12 years but retwisting is horible it weakens the roots and can cause traction alopecia  bald spots around the dreads that can even be permenant balding have any dreads broken? retwisting is never recomended..at all but if u must then 4 times a year..every 3 months  may limit the harm doing it monthly is very risky
