Homemade stone beads!

Prompted by a serious lack of supplies in my city and a conversation with Marcellus Wallace, I made these lovely beads out of rocks I gathered off the beach the first time I saw the ocean! I love them. I think they have enforced that I won't be spending any money on adornments: everything will either be made or given to me, then they will truly be pure beauty and love.

Very cool!! I've been considering making my own wood and stone beads. I just might give it a try!

I live in a small city (70,000) in the bible belt of Canada.  We have nothing in terms of interesting groups and relatively few open-minded individuals.  I searched for a lapidary club ginger, but the closest one is hours away from here.

You may want to check around your area for a "lapidary" club. In my county, the club does basic training for $40 and you can then use their machines to drill, cut, and polish your stones if you want them to be done up like that. But they teach about how to handle the different densities and textures of the mineral groups to get the best results.

How I made them was, as SE said, with a Dremel.  Mine in particular was the Dremel 3000, I don't think my handheld one was going to do the trick.  Diamond tipped coring bit, a dish of water to help keep everything cool and a small block of wood. to prevent drilling through the bottom of the container.  It doesn't take that long once you've gotten the hang of it, maybe about 5 minutes per stone.
Ixchel, if you're looking for rocks you can do it with any, but the smoother and more rounded a rock is the softer it is and the easier the drilling will be.

Thank you everyone!  I love them too. =)
