Root rubbing will only thin out your locks and rips your hair into shreds.

As for crocheting, it is the second worst thing that can be done to locks. It's even worse than wax. All it does is rips your hair into smaller and smaller pieces. This weakens your locks considerably, and is responsible for many people losing locks. They can get snap off in random places, even at the roots, leaving bald patches
