I started by backcombing and it was super poofy and so a few weeks later I went to a salon that specializes in crochet hooking. 3 weeks after that I went in for more maintenance. Then I found this site and realized it was only causing more damage to do crochet hooking. So now I am trying to patiently just leave them alone. Easier said then done when you want something a certain way. They are absolutely crazy and more and more loops all the time and loose hairs and the ends are not staying dreaded at all. I will hit month 3 in a few weeks so I just need to be patient. I have a hard time with that. LOL! But this whole process is teaching me something. I just want it to look descent but that will take a while. It looks like a rats nest in the back so when I go out I put them up.
well initially i backcombed the hell out of them, and then i was palm rolling and doing all this damaging crap to them for like the first 3 weeks or so, then i got on here... ordered a dreadlockssoap bar, wash them as often as i feel like, usually like 3x a week, and separate them... i tried the dreadlocks lock up gel out of curiosity, i dont think it really does much.
See these pictures has assured me now that this is what dreads are suppose to look like early on cause this is what mine look like. Love it. Whatever you are doing it looks great.
