Started my dread journey January 25, 2013. I did a free form/ neglect method. Since, I started my dread journey, I also began my fitness/ weight loss journey but at the end of 2013. I was extremely unhealthy, overweight, and I wanted to make a change. So I did! I've lost a total of 100 lbs. now, all natural weight loss too, just clean eating and working out! Welcome. Natural will teach you more patience, but TnR is fine too.
The problem that most people run into when using a starter method is that they love how their new locks look the first few days. But when you wash, the usually come untangled a lot, or all the way. There's no avoiding this.
The desire to redo them can be overwhelming. But don't. Redoing them will only set you back to day 1. Then they will come untangled all over again, and you get frustrated with why they aren't progressing.
Your first few months will look really funny. The 4th is usually the messiest. But they do start to come together nicely after that.

Welcome. The main reason they aren't locking up is because of the wax. Wax completely prevents locking, at best. It makes your hair stick to itself and prevents loops, knots, and tangling of all sorts. All of which is needed for hair to lock up.
At worst, and very likely, wax prevents water from escaping when you wash. When water sits around in your hair for a few days, it starts to decompose you hair. Mold starts to grow and you end up with a swamp of decaying matter on your head. It's not pretty. That what happened to my first set. I ended up losing about 1/2 my hair to rot.
Crocheting, on the other hand is the most damaging thing you can do to locks. It rips hairs into smaller and smaller pieces which seriously weakens your locks. It will also over tighten them making your hair stiff and hard. The most mature locks should be soft and spongy.
Crocheting also delays locking by about 6 months for each session you had.

u gotta remove wax r=throw away the hook and let them recover
