Welcome. Unfortunately, wax has been promoted as one of the only ways to get locks to form. This is an outright lie. Wax, in fact, completely prevents locks from forming. Because it glues your hair down, it stops any progress past the first day it was applied. They will never mature. And because wax is a hydrocarbon, it will NEVER wash out in normal soap and water. It needs a detergent and tons of scrubbing to get it all out. This can take months of washing 2-3 times a week, depending on how many times you used it.

The only thing that you need to do is wash with a non residue soap. But the wax needs to come out first. If you don't plan on having locks for more than a few years, it's not terrible. But it will cause your hair to become waterlogged, and your hair will begin to decompose while still on your head.

It's just nasty stuff. Wax should only be used to water proof things. Or make candles. It's not a hair product

Welcome to the site. Did you know that curly hair naturally dreads the quickest, they form beautiful locks all on their own. Besides the wax being bad, all those oils are no good either. The wax and oils will lock in lint, smells, pollution etc. Wax will stain your pillow cases. Wax will soften in the summer heat and stain your clothes. Wax will promote acne on face, neck, shoulders & back. Wax will cause mold due to water trapped inside the dread.

If you want your dreads as a hairstyle for 1 or 2 years only, then have fun & carry on with your instant dreads.

If you want dreads for life or many many years, then get out the wax & oils, use the dreaducation pages & keep em healthy. Let the flyaways happen with wax free sections, the more movement the quicker they dread.

Peace
