when they lock up they will shrink and get thicker so i wouldn't worry about congoing now. you can do that when they're mature. separate, separate, separate! be careful when wrapping wool yarn in your hair. wool will felt with your hair and can be really hard to remove later. i would stick with embroidery floss or hemp. actually i wouldn't even be wrapping hair at only a week old. give it some time to develop first.
