Welcome. But I have to warn you about wax. It is one of the single most destructive things that you can do to locks. Hands down, no hair type needs it. And it's terrible for all hair types.
A best case scenario: Wax completely prevents locking. No matter how old your locks are, they never progress past the first day you put wax in them. This s because wax essentially glues your hair together. It holds down loops, tangles, and knots. Without all 3, locks can't form. Dreadlocks are a massive accumulation of knots and tangles. If no knots can accumulate, no locks form.
Worst case scenario (don't get me wrong, this happens more often than not): Wax causes mold and mildew to form, leading to your hair rotting off. Again, this is because wax is a hydrocarbon. That means that no amount of hot water and normal soap/shampoo will get it out. Your hair is essentially water-proofed. When you wash, or go out in the rain, water and moisture seep into your locks, and can't get out. This water becomes stagnant and starts to allow mildew and mold to grow in your hair. If it sits there for even a few months, your hair begins to rot. You end up walking around with a swamp glued to your head. Trust me from experience, it's no fun.
Because wax is a hydrocarbon, you need a detergent to clean it out. Dawn dish soap is good, but takes a good number of washes to get your hair completely clean. Also, the wax-b-gone that dreadlockshampoo.com sells is better, but still takes a number of sessions. I know that wax removal can be a hassle, but as long as it stay in your hair, your locks won't last more than a few years.

While they are on the journey to maturity, they will look crazy, loopy, zig zaggy and not like the dreads you envision at all, that takes time. No need to take yours out, they are well on their way.
