Thank you Brittany! : ) and Karen, I'm sorry you had trouble with your first set of dreads. If you miss them it must mean you really want them so I would try again all natural and just be careful of the shampoo you use. Also rinsing them really well. My husband is going mostly natural with a few twist and rips thrown in and is loving it. I think you should do them again! They looked so good! : )
I had the shrinking too. But I decided to take mine out, after a week of picking with a crochet hook every evening I got them out, my hair felt like dried soap. I guess I didnt rince them out good enough, now I miss my dreads. I am thinks of letting them dread by themself if I read up on it
Hi Dreadfern. Yeah, it's weird because if you see me from the front my dread babies are longish, but if you see me from behind it's pretty short like a reverse mullet. I read your bio about how you started your dreads with extensions and then combed them out and started from scratch. I completely understand that feeling. When I decided to start dreads I made the decision to do loose TnR and then just let it go and do its thing naturally after that. I was about 2 weeks into it and started having second thoughts about taking it out and starting over with complete neglect. I didn't feel connected with my hair, like it was aseparate entity. I posted about it and SE and others said that TnR will feel natural over time and I didn't really need to comb them out, just have patience. With you it's different in that part because extensions will never be your own hair, but that feeling was the same at that point in my journey. Since then, my hair haddefied the TnR and made its own decisions of how my dreads are going to look. I TnR'd because I wanted thinner dreads (control and I was afraid of how big my hair naturally sections being so thick and curly. With all the loops I have now (3/4) of my hair hasmajorlyloopedup around itself and shrunk. They will all be good size dreads-not what I thought (letting go of control Now I think that is cool and I am happy for it. I love my dreads now and they all have different personalities. If you look at my pics you can even see a happy face one. He still looks like that : ) I feel apart of my hair now, actually more then I did with my regular hair because I always fought it before. I am happy you are getting that experience. You obviously wanted dreads for a deeper meaning then just a hair style. Me too. Yay us! Have a good one! :D
Thank you Hippiegal! I think yours and mine are shrinking the same way. I will have some very thick ones eventually. I checked some of the root sections and I have a few that are 2" on each side, like the one I have wrapped. That root section wasinfiltrating on other root sections since it was so big, hence the wrap near the root. ; )

I love that! Reverse mullet! I have one too. I can see some nice thick ones happening there. And those lovely zig-zags...
