i've spun a couple times, it's hard to find the time to focus on it tho. i use kool-aid, food coloring, wiltons or duff cake dyes, & plants. most plants do give a lighter hue but if you put A LOT in there you can get them darker, & some (like indigo) give bold color. i use wool, i think you have to use chemical dyes on cotton & you need to wear a mask & do it in a well ventilated area so i didn't want to dip into that in my apartment with kids, maybe if i get a workshop someday, or a yard there are dyeing groups on ravelry.com too with lots of info. if you have any questions tho i can try to help from what i know! it really is SO MUCH FUN!
Attempting to spin and dye my own yarn is a near future project for me. What dyes do you use? I've thought about plant dyes, but I know on some I won't be able to get them as deep and vibrant as I hope for and I'm so twisted on wanting natural dyes vs. desired color. Did you use cotton yarn? I hear it is a bit more difficult to dye cotton than animal fibers like wool. I really would love to come up with an efficient process of dying my own yarn though.
it's crazy how tiny she seemed when she was bigger than my first
yes i made them matching hats! i dyed the yarn myself too. i made a hat like that for a gift exchange & loved it so i figured a fall born baby must have a pumpkin hat! i found the pattern on ravelry.com (love it there). we got TONS of compliments on them, everyone was asking where i bought them she was very cozy & snuggled up in my wrap <3
Yes she does look tiny, but of course, so cute! You made the hat?! It's excellent! I have a terrible time trying to knit baby hats, especially because I don't have a baby around lol. The sizing always gets me, but it looks like you did a great job, it looks store bought! And she looks quite cozy in it here, glad he was able to get a picture of momma and baby for you.
thank you! tiny right? oh squishy babies!!! i love how this picture turned out, & glad we got it! Some guy for a local rag wanted a photo of my girls in their matching pumpkin hats i knit but my older one was being too shy. I took pictures of everyone else but no one took any of me & the baby! So he was able to send me the photos he took of us <3 i really really love this one. that pumpkin right behind her is the one we picked for her, they do a big patch & each kid gets one, they gave out hundreds of pumpkins! plus they have all neat little stands & music &activities. very nice for the little ones, can't wait to go again this year
OMGoodness 9 days old, how precious! This is such a great picture with the pumpkins splotched in the background and how her little hat ties into that... it's like you "plucked" your perfect little pumpkin out of the patch. Peace & love to you
aww thanks much! it's crazy how tiny she looks there & how much of a chunky monkey she is now! <3
This kills me. So gorgeous! :D
thanks, we thought so too
cutest pumpkin around
