Welcome. Hopefully theis third set will last. But I have to warn you that if you crochet, they won't last more than a handful of years. Crocheting does nothing to help locks mature. In fact, it only helps to delay progress, and destroy your locks. With every pass of the hook, you rip hundreds of hairs, which makes your locks very weak. In time, they can become to fragile that a soft tug will snap them. And eventually they won't be able to support their own weight
Hi Freya, hows it going with learning all the methods and information on this wonderful site. Until you decide on how you are going to dread, stop combing or brushing now. That way your hair can start separating into sections all on its own. If you go neglect, then you have started by not brushing. If you do the T&R, then it is best to let you hair naturally section itself first, then use those section to T&R. That way they are assorted sizes, that way your hair is telling you where it wants to dread instead of you telling the sections where to be. My T&R sections range from 2.5cm to the size of a string of yarn. If you do not want fat dreads/congos, then separate any sections that have formed larger than 2.5cm. So, once you have your sections, then you can decide on the method you want to use. If you choose to go with T&R, I have a post that may help you along the way: (Dead URL) http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/just-starting-out-what-to-expect/a> There are still tips on there you can use if going the best way which is neglect...Peace
Well, some of them in the front are TNR - Depending on your hair type may or may not work well for you, but for my hair type works pretty well. The back of my head is completely neglect though, and I have some nice knots back there. If you decide TNR - keep in mind most the time they fall out but it does help tell your hair where to dread.
Neglect - Wild dreads, different shapes different sizes different forms
Tnr - wild dreads that are about the same in shape and size if they don't eat one another.
backcomb - usually turn into same shape, same sized dreads, less wild then your other options.
If you do decide to do tnr or backcombing - the trick is.. only do it once..and once only. Don't continue to do it. Dreads are going to do this crazy knotting stuff, regardlessthough.
I did a hella lot of research, and a hella lot of timeline watching to see the end results of most methods, and I would say do the same for yourself.
Welcome to the community fellow Canuck, greetings to beautiful BC. The dreaducation section at the top of the site is a great place to start for all your information. Neglect/freeform dreads are the healthiest choice for sure, then the Twist & Rip (T&R) method is second best if not done too tightly. Backcombing damages hairs as they are forced up with the comb. Enjoy your future journey, if you have any questions before you start, or along the way, many members here will help you out....Peace
Welcome. Neglect is the healthiest method. And it's always a forward progress. Unlike TnR and back combing, which are a 1 step forward 2 steps back progress

And forgot to add - I don't suggest backcombing. =3
