Comment by Adam Jaymes Robinson on August 4, 2011 at 1:12am Hmm.. thats a good question.. is peaceful protest effective.. it did work for Ghandi.. but india was occupied by the british.. i think if it concerns imperialism and a occupation by a foreign land, than yes. but concerning america or any other place where the oppression is homemade i think something as radical as absolute and polar change is almost impossible. i say almost impossible because the hippies had it in the palm of their hands and threw it all away. they were much too disorganized and were too busy consuming lsd to even realize they had the power to change the most powerful country in the world. things have only gotten worse as time has passed. i see my generation becoming alot of moronic wasteoids crippled by debt. psuedo spiritual self aggrandizers who would rather post pictures of their gnarly dubstep show experience on facebook than think about how their being exploited. there are a few of us out there but not nearly enough to stand toe to toe with uncle sam. in order to topple a ineffective and deft government ALL people of that land (i think anyway) have to be united and even then old dictatorships are replaced with shiny new ones. and some people are just hard to please. i couldnt ever imagine sarah palin and glenn beck standing with zac de la rocha united in cause. the weather underground, the black panthers, and abbie hoffman were on the right path. but even those organizations was destroyed in the shadow of the colossus. so do i think that peaceful revolution is possible, the odds are terrible but miracles do happen and hopefully someday the people will wake up and stop being content with mental lullabies like jersey shore. wouldnt count on it, but then again im a cynic.
Comment by Phatt Ash on August 3, 2011 at 11:54am I think as human kind we all need to stand up for each other no matter what colour skin we have or what set of beliefs we stand for. i really feel the quote that you stated in your post, and really appreciate the fact that any one that stands up against the higher powers is classed as a conspiracy theorist, maybe just because people really are blind to reality but with what we are constantly bombarded with in the media and pop cultures it is easy to see how. On the other hand i do believe that in this day in age freedom is a very dangerous thing, more because there is always someone or groups that will try to take advantage for there own benefit. I also find it a little odd that after Iraq, Libya is possibly the next conflict that certain super powers can really benefit from ( makes me wonder who truly lit the flame). But that aside people all over the world have suffered greatly from the supposed leaders of there countries and this doesnt stop with arab uprisings. We as human doings rather than human beings need to come together and make a stand, but i do not believe it will be successful unless more people turn off there t.v's and start thinking for themselves, i am afraid that we are a very long way off. Just my opinion. Sorry not the best at writing structured paragraphs but i hope you catch my drift.
