dready parents and dreadful children

this is a group for all parents who have dreads, or parents of kids with dreads. its also a place for kids who want dreads to network with parents with dreads as well as a place for parents who are reluctant to allow theyre kids to dread.
we will try to give fair and ballanced opinions on the advantages and drawbacks without insisting one way or the other is right.

its a gathering place too for discussing all matters facing dready families and to celebrate the beauty of our parents and childrens dreadlocked lifestyles

Hello, I'm Jessica. I just recently turned 21 and I am 2 months pregnant with my first child. I have had my dreads for 8 months. I hope to raise my child to be appreciative of all walks of life, and pray to my Mother that I can find an appropriate balance for my child. I come to this group in the hopes of finding advice and information on immunizations, homeschooling, traveling with a child, and other topics related to fitting your pre-pregnancy lifestyle into your new family one. All you happy dready mawmas give me hope! Keep it up, and remember to keep it Grateful (Dead, that is!)

My name is Lucy, I'm 25, 26 in a little less than a month. I have a 2 year old son named Uriah and an 8 year old daughter named Isabelle. I have had my dreads for almost 5 months, they're coming along!! My husband has had his dreads for going on 12 years, and our sons hair just started locking up all on its own, so we aren't stopping it. We live in a tiny redneck town in Nor Cal called Red Bluff, so we get all kinds of close minded comments and dirty looks, but, we also get more and more people asking questions, interested in how we maintain them!! So it gives me hope that acceptance will spread around the world!! My daughter just moved to Oklahoma the beginning of this month, and we're still adjusting, but so far so good. She doesn't like dreads, but that's okay. Her dad is a pretty close minded individual, so we work hard in our home to teach her to open her mind!! We teach tolerance, respect and Love, and our kids are beginning to show it!! I'm excited every day at the progress my children make towards becoming amazing, caring individuals!! I look forward to meeting all of the dready parents in this forum, offering any help I can, and getting some when I have questions as well!! Thnanks all for being here!! Love and Light!!

im ciara, i have a one and a half yeah old son named rex. i am a dready mama. i do get a lot of looks about my hair all the time. especially when i am out with my son alone. no one really shows any interest in them, like asking question, but more so i get the stink eye from people. i want my son to be open and understanding of all people, and every one decisions if he agrees with them or not. my son has been to some festivals, and he loves dread heads and people with tattoos because he is so used to them! other kids also seem to be interested in me, and the way i look.

& i suppose i should start out the introductions, since im the one askin' for 'em...

im jasmine. i'll be 21 next month. i have a 20 & 1/2 month old little man named creedyn.
i have dreads. i<3 my dreads, and i look forward to seeing whatever crazy ideas cree gets for his hair growing up.
i dont really get any negative feedback on my dreads, 'cept that the back could use a lil work....i've had women my mother's age come up to me at town gatherings, grab my dreads, & ask questions about them in a completely polite & interested manor. walking into stores i still get looked at like im going to mug an oldlady or try to walk out of the store with everything not bolted down in my purse. but it's not too bad.
in my frame of mind, i could ramble forever.

as well as i could expect, heh.
so, i think we should all introduce ourselves a little better.
parent with dreads? kid with dreads? how do you deal with peoples' reaction, if there are any?
lets get to know eachother. the only way to make the world a better place is to talk, talk, talk it out.
yeehaw.
