dready parents and dreadful children

this is a group for all parents who have dreads, or parents of kids with dreads. its also a place for kids who want dreads to network with parents with dreads as well as a place for parents who are reluctant to allow theyre kids to dread.
we will try to give fair and ballanced opinions on the advantages and drawbacks without insisting one way or the other is right.

its a gathering place too for discussing all matters facing dready families and to celebrate the beauty of our parents and childrens dreadlocked lifestyles

Hey everyone, I'm Adel...and 36 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Its a girl and I'm naming her Harmony Estelle. I'm still doing this on my own, the daddy doesn't want anything to do with either of us...so it's a pretty scary thing to be going through, im only 19 and going to be a mom! I could use all the advice you guys have, I deffinetly dont want to raise her in typical society...I want her to be able to know whats real in this world, and be around real good people with good vibes everywhere. I dont want her to go to public school either, so any tips on all of this would be great. Thank you guys, love to all <3

Hi everyone - I'm Sarah, wife to Remco and mother to Nina-Milan (13), Neiko (7), Harry (6), Elliot (18mo) and angels Hope-Dominique (7), Noah James (4) and Willow (3).  I also have an 18 year old step daughter.  We are an unschooling family and I run a charity supporting parents whose baby has died in pregnancy or at birth.  I am very into attachment parenting with Elliot - he is still breastfed and I love baby wearing him.  I just wish that I had gone down this track with the others.  My dreads are about 9 months old so still learning about them.  Elliot has 4 natural dreads which are so cute - the rest of his hair is baby thin so don't know what will happen with it.  Just take it day by day I guess.  Well that's me.  Look forward to being part of this group.

hello all I have an awesome lil boy Psyrus Wayne he is the light of my life ..he also has very little hair so for now dreads is not an option ..but the main word to focus on there is option ..I dont want to dread his hair because i want to ..if he wants dreads he can have them but its his choice not mine ..I would only do it if he really seemed to want them ..but i am also not cutting his hair because he will never have this beatiful thin soft baby hair again and i will forever miss when it changes

Happy to find this group :)

I am a mom to Faythe age 11, and Kayne age 15. Bringing them into the world has been the most wonderful thing to ever have happened to my partner and I. We are creative people (I am an artist, partner is a musician),we are all vegetarians and my daughter and I are vegans, we are homeschoolers. We are raising our children to be individuals who respect themselves and the Earth.
Reading quickly through the comments on this page has made me very happy--it is heartwarming to see that there are others in the world who thoroughly enjoy being with their children and arent totally stressed and cranky because of their choice to bring life into the world.
My older son had dreads for a a few years and cut them off about a year ago because he wanted a change. My kids constantly tell me how much they love my dreads and I would love to see them with them also but my daughter has no desire for them right now and well my son is kinda shaved right now so it is a few years off whether or not he will grow them again. I want them to know that they are free to choose and I will support and love them no matter what they do (which reminds me of what my parents did when I was young and shaved my head into a mohawk -- they kicked me out of the house!)
Love to you all!

Know I think you should sometime. I've known young girls who have had dreads at an early age like that and continued on. They seem to have more self love and confidence in who they are. I don't knownwhat it is. Dreadlcs are far from dreadful and more of a humbling experience. So far. :3

LOVE IT! I have no children however my husband ad I already decided if we are so blessed with children and we hae boys they are all getting dreads. And all natural. A comv or brush will never meet their heads. We are spiritual and want to give them the Nazarite oath meaning no combing or cutting. If we have daughters they're getting locks as well. Probably twist locks though.

Hi all! I'm Jamie ;) My dreads will be 2 at the end of July! My husband and I have 1 daughter, Molly. She's got gorgeous thick and curly hair and she tells me she wants dreads already. I wont do it though out of concern she's too young and all the care would be laid on me. Maaybe I'll think about it after I have her out of diapers :) She tells me often how beautiful my dreads are and it melts my heart every time.

Hi Sylph...... I love your babies name :) with my last child I did the whole attachment parenting, but the sad thing was she didn't want my breastmilk at 8months she like didn't eat for days, and then i put her on formula which was real real sad for me, she enjoyed this better.... I think it was because at that time i was starting to work out, and because I heard that your milk can sour, I think this is what was happening and she didn't like it.......But my daughter is very fussy and she gets put of real easy....lol probably like her mother........but she 14 months now and I still wish I was breastfeeding her...
