I was talking with one of my friends who has had dreads before, he said that they mine will probably fall out when they mature because my hair is so thin and my dreads are thin as well. Im thinking about starting over and making them a little thicker but i dont want to do that if its not nessary. Has anyone on here delt with thin hair/thin dreads? Any advice would be much appreciated :)

your reing=d had dreads b4 ..how were they srarted and maintained

i have 1 dread thats this thick l

thats 3 dreads thinner then the letter l combined

that micro thin dreads over 4 maybe 5 feet long

i think your freind doesnt have a clue

my hairs extremely thick but has many very thin dreads and that 1 micro dread

i know ppl with thin hair thick dreads thin hair thin dreads  etc they dont just fall out when they mature unless u do somethingthat thins them and makes them break

was this freind interlocking twisting root rubbing or palm rolling  crocheting etc  doing anything that thins and weakens them

yea your freinds clueless i think

  • He said he used dread pepper and washed it with a rag and some soap. I didnt hear him mention anything about palm rolling or crocheting, but he might have done that.

If you're locks don't get thinner towards the root, you're fine.  And if they "feel" thinner, that's different. They will almot always feel thinner at the root because the hair there is still straight.  You can squeeze it and your fingers should touch.  But if the hair at your roots is actually getting pulled out of your scalp and thinning, that can be a problem, in about 10 years.  I have 3 locks that are thinning out at the root from my genetic predisposition to baldness, as well as having palm rolled them in the very beginning.  And my locks are over 6 years old now.  Even though they are thinner that I'd like, I know they will still last quite a few more years.

Locks don't just fall out unless you abuse them or someone yanks them really hard.  Then you have a different problem.  (Why were you hanging out with someone who would pull your hair out?)

I've only had 1 part of a lock fall out because it was weak in the middle and years ago I though I could help make it more stable by tying a knot at the weak spot.  It just aggravated it and about a weak ago it finally snapped off in the shower.  None have ever fallen out at the root.  If you don't use tools, wax, palm roll, crochet your roots, or interlock, you have nothing to worry about

I think your friends information is misleading hun. Just keep em clean and seperated and you should have no trouble at all. My friend Drew is coming up on 17 years of thin hair and what started as thin dreads. Over the years many have congoed and thickened up.
