My problem is really stiff and tight dreads. Some are getting HARD and it's uncomfortable to sleep for example. Most can stand right up with no problem. I'm also feeling kind of pulling in my scalp, due to excessive firmness I guess, and it's a bit painful :/

So what have I done so far:

  • Done my locs by felting about 18 months ago (baad, I now know...)
  • Felted a few times after that too, to get loose hair back in (not so much though, got bored hehe. and not at all since 3 or so months ago)
  • Used wax couple of times in the very beginning (to tame loose hair and look neat or something, have no idea really)
  • Palmrolling and root rubbing (Stopped that because it made my skin hurt.)

After discovering this site I have:

  • Washed with baking soda and vinegar once (made dreads waay softer)
  • Applied a little olive oil to roots to help loosening
  • Got a little hope for saving my locs :)

I was really close to cutting my hair, because it looks (and FEELS) unnatural and uncomfortable. Is there anything to be done to reduce firmness / save felted dreads.

Help me Dreadlockssite, you're my only hope!

ps. there are little loops forming here and there, it's a good sign, right?

1 remove wax  use the wax b gone

2 remove wax

3 keep revoving wax long adter u think its gone

4 use aloe or jojoba to loosen and soften

5 when  you can drape a drwad over a finger and irt hangs limp and when u can pinch it and squeeze it by 1/2 its thickness  sttop the aloe/jojoba and let em dread

note..u may get very messy..felting did extreme harm..accept the mess if they dont start losing chunks of dread count yoirself lucky

ok the pinch test doesnt haveto be 1/2 way in i just tried mine wich are super tight now from trtingthe pink sea salt and  cant pinch 1/2 way in but i might conditiin a lil ti[onight cause of that

And after you've done what SE said, remove wax! Even when you think it's out, remove again!

and again

and again

its evil stuff and  u never can be too sure its gone

Tervetuloa Lost Viking. It so so sad to hear all the no no's that were done to your dreads. I hope that you are able to save them, good luck.

Do you think BS & ACV is enough, or should I get the Wax B-gone? Shipping here is twice the price of product :(

Kiitos!

We'll see. Maybe they just crumble and fall off when (or if) I get rid of the wax.

u can get 5 05 6 products in 1 box for same price no bs and acvb will not get much out at all

straight undiluted full strength acv will remove a lil scrubbing with near boiling water and lots of dish soap will get out so,e more  wax b gone gets out the most

u can scrub with dish soap for the next 3-6 month s and maybe get most out

but 3-6 applications of wax b gone will get wayy more

so throw in 3-5 shampoos untill shipping goes up then remove 1

that wu[ill give ya a years suoply of the best soaps

u can just keep scrubbing like crazy with dish soap and water so hot  its close to dangerouse..it will get alot out but will take alotta work and a lingtime

We can definitely be your Obi-wan.

The Dish soap has detergents in it that will help remove the wax.  It will take plenty of washes though.  At least 2-3 a week for a minimum of 1 month for 1 session with wax.  If you used it more than once, do it for 2 months.  There are plenty of descriptions on how to go about using it in the wax removal pages.

The wax-b-gone will do the most, though.  You'll still need to use it multiple times, but it will clean it all out in due course.

Once the wax is out, your locks will be frizzy and messy.  You may lose a ton of hair from the damage that the felting did.  The wax has been holding that hair in place.  Don't freak out when you see hairs falling out left and right.  Unless your roots start to look extra thin, you should be fine.

u should for sure get the waz b gone think about it, have u ever spilled a candle or dripped down all over everything? never gos away or gets out of anything right well, not fully. same concept i think. instead of wasting time an money on a bunch of different trials and product mixes.   just get the wax be gone u will not regret it! peace an love b with u onn ur new ever changing journey

i havent used wax be gone, but i can tell you from buying the shapooo that Vicki has something special going on with her prducts and you should probably just eat the price for the health of your locks. i know it probably seems like alot, but think abou tthe long run...

Thank you all for advice and support!

I think I'll place an order for Wax b-gone. Doesn't seem too expensive after all, thinking about the long run like KnotLady says. I don't want to lose many years worth of growth. Hope it isn't gone already - just shreds and powder glued togheter by wax..

I kinda like the idea of starting over though, all natural this time. It might be fun to try shorter hair for a change. Haven't had that for almost ten years!

good luck with whatever you choose. starting natural might not be bad.
