I decided to try my hand at making dread beads out of polymer clay since it's getting really hard to find beads here that will fit my fatties. :-/ Anyway my first batch of clay arrived today and I had fun trying it out and making a couple of really simple beads. If I get the hang of this craft I might start making and selling jewelry to add to my clothing line. :)

I llike tthem how hard wwas it to make them

Cute!

They look really good I have wood ones but iI want some like urs
What brand do you use? I have sculpy original and I'm not a huge fan on it. It gets way to soft to work with. How did you get it to keep that snake shape?
They look pretty awesome. Buy some beads that won't melt in the oven and you can get even more creative and funky :)

do you leave them in when you bathe? i was wondering if it would make them softer if they got wet? i've always wondered what dreadies do whom have all kinds of wraps and decorations when they wash ..

Not sure about polymer.  The only beads I leave in when I wash are my glass and coconut seed beads. Even though my peyote stitch bead was made with water proof thread, I take them off

Awesome work for someone new to clay! I have been working with Fimo (Fimo Soft is way easier to work with than Fimo Classic) and Premo (which is the higher-quality version of Sculpey) for several years.

I started out making simple twists like that too and now it's pretty much my main income source. If you love working with clay definitely keep at it, whether it's dread-related beads and stuff or stash jars or candle holders... the possibilities with clay are literally endless and there are tons of sites that can teach you some of the more "advanced" techniques. YAY FOR CLAYWORK :)
