Hello all! Recently someone very kindly shared their little friends with us. Two of my sons, all three daughters and myself ALL got head lice!!! My husband and oldest son did not. They take raw garlic every day for medical reasons and I believe that is why they did not get them(this works for fleas as well). Anyways, back to trying to rid ourselves of them. I tried the alcohol and vinegar treatment but, my dreads are EXTREMEMLY heavy and It hurt to have them up so long. I did mayo on my daughter's hair every two days. None of this worked. I read they could only hold their breath for 15 minutes somewhere but, other places said up to five hours!! This meant war!!!

All the bedding went into a VERY HOT dryer(the hot water does not work on my washer). They can't withstand 140 degrees. All the coats, toys and ect. went outside for two days because it's freezing at night. They freeze to death and cannot live more than 48 hours without food. Vacuum everything.

I bought some organic coconut oil, warmed it up and added tea tree oil, rosemary oil, and lavender oil. I greased up my daughter's hair, tied it up and put them to bed with a towel over their pillows. I put the oil in my dreads(it took alot for my dreads) put my hair in my huge wool tam and went to bed.

In the morning I used Dawn dish soap and water as hot as we all could stand it. It took two washes to get it out of our hair. I used a lice comb and dipped it in hot water with tea tree oil after every time I combed. Lots of DEAD bugs. I never found a live bug after using the oil. We did this every two days for a week and a half and the lice are gone!!

With the boys I only combed their hair with the oil and hot water and we ALL use Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree soap now. Their bugs are gone!

Our hair is super conditioned too! The oil also loosens the "glue" and the eggs washed out of my dreads:)

You have to suffocate them. They breathe through holes on their sides that they can close when you are in the shower. Coconut oil plugs the holes and penetrates their bodies,. The tea tree and lavender oil kills them. Neem oil does the same AND disrupts the hormone cycle of the nits and when they hatch, they cannot lay eggs. I could'nt afford to get any after the coconut oil. Ouch!

I hope this helps someone out there:)

God Bless!

neem will kill any parasytes and then some

i believe they cant breathe 15 minutes noit 5 hours

so u go 30 to be safe

the alcahol method worked great for me tho was harsh on raw slalc p i bet the oil actualy soothed it

i tried mayo and i thought they thought it made my head taste better

it might have suffocated them but they liked the taste were having a picnic on my scalp

Great info and I'm glad it worked for you. I really hope I never it to do this though.

Yes, God Bless you, I have only had my dreads done yesterday and the lice was a big worry as my 2 kids are always getting lice from someone at school, I don't think I will beable to do any oil yet as my dreads are so new, it might unravel them. I have found that just soaking my kids hair in normal conditioner works too, just apply it to dry hair and comb it through and watch all the bugs come out with the comb of course.

One question - how on earth did you comb your dreads with the lice comb! or did you mean just your kids hair.

Sweet

I'm just in the middle of the head lice nightmare. I've tried different products of lice treatment, with the result of keeping them down, but not killed 'em. so yesterday i bought the ingredients you wrote about, and make a cocktail of it, put it in my hair, especially focused on the scalp. So now i really really hope this will kill them, cause i would be very unhappy to cut my dreads off.

A quick question, did you just put the coconut oil in for every second day, or was it the mix of ingridients?

Big up fi di natty dreadlock

try the rubbing alcahi]=ol  instead its way easier to rinse out of dreadsand it kills em pretty effectively

What kind of alcohol? sorry if i sound stupid, but it's my first time where i could not get rid off them with the traditional lice treatment. But i think it's already better now, just have to continue and wait and see.

70% rubbing alcohol or i think its isopropyly  in some countriresit is called surgical alcohol

its the type you use on wounds to steralyze i[or its used to burn siometimes too

its not the drinking kind

its the fumes that kill

Ahh okay. It was only because a couple of month in my dreads i've got lice too, back then i try some alcohol we have here in DK that are on 99% and that burn the scalp so much. I have a bottle of this so i try that too.

yea 99 is strong but it will burn dont make no mistake about that it steralizes sores tho

just grit your teeth bab[=ng yoyr fist against the wakll scream yell and curse

it is only 1/2 hour   you will be glad when they are dead

but it does burn

but just imagine how they feel as they breath it and fry theirt lungs anddie

that makes it all worthwhile

Big thanks to Jesus Freed My Soul!! & ☮ soaring eagle ॐ for help, with my lice problem. First i use the mix of oils, that worked very well, every second day. But to be sure that i've killed all those bastards i afterwards use the isopropyl alcohol for every third day. One week with the oils and one week with the alcohol. And now a week after... I'M ALL OUT OFF LICE!!!

So i can only recommend the treatments they explain here.

I caught lice about 2 years ago, I'm allergic to anything that contains PPE (or PPA, anyway its in hairdye), not sure if it's organic but I tried wild child nit treatment, worked really well, went after 2 treatments, was pretty easy to wash out n didn't knacker my dreads! I was waxing my hair then so just be careful with natural dreads x

I only have 50% alcohol. Is that not going to work? I did it yesterday and 10 to 12 fell out dead but that doesn't seem like very many. If it killed some, wouldn't it kill them all. I rinced with acv but I don't have any oils although I am going to get some asap but Idk how soon that will be. My head feels a lot better but still a little itchy. I cant tell if it itches because theyre up there or if its just because its so dry.

I NEED HELP :/
