Keepin it cool.

General Questions

I live in FL and it is pretty warm down here most of the year.... When it is super hot I loosely tie my dreads up with a headband or I wear a tam... Just having my hair off my neck helps a bunch! SE, I have to look into that Misty Mate.... Sounds wonderful! Good Luck :)

I'm starting to struggle with my journey :(

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I say hang in there! I am at the 6 month mark and feeling a little impatient but, I know this is what I want and am willing to just wait it out..... When I feel frustrated I just don't look in the mirror :) It will totally be worth the wait in the end.

Any parents with dreads here?

General Questions

I have an 8 year old son... He says he loves my "crazy" hair because it makes me easier to find at the park :) Be yourself, I teach my son if you are being true to yourself it is the most important thing.

He did hear someone say a negitive comment the other day about my dreads, he heard someone say they were disgusting....We had a talk about how that was her opinion and that she wasallowed tohave it...It became a lesson, but I would rather him hear that than me conform because others think I should....

Good Luck and do what is right for your and your immediate family :)

Crazy tangles... What to do?

Dread Maintenance

So my dreads are about 3 mths old and recently every morning I wake up and they are connected on the bottom... Like 2 or 3 dreads all clumped on the ends only. I have been seperating them cause I don't want massive dreads.

Question: Am I slowing the process? Should I just let them be? It seems to me counter productive to be ripping out knots cause that whatI want.... Any suggestions would be great :) Thanks.

I think im gay.......

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I was thinking the same thing as SE.... If your girlfriend is supportive maybe testing the waters is not a bad idea. But, I think the most important thing is being completly honest and open with her if you decide to be with men exclusively... I am bi but, married to a man and am faithful to him but, when we were dating I was very open with him on my feeings. In the end we just got along so well it didn't matter to me that he was a man... Lol!

Is it gross to not wash your dreads after sweating?

Dread Maintenance

I guess it depends on your preference. I exercise quite a bit and only wash my dreads every 3 days, so about 2 to 3 times a week. I sweat when I exercise so sometimes I go 2 days without washing and I don't smell and my scalp is fine..... Try not to wash after and see how you feel, it might not be as gross as you think.

Positive Reactions?

General Talk

For me the people that really matter in my life like my friends and family are all pretty accepting. When I first started my Granny said she didn't like them but, that was it... I have had only one other not nice reaction, but I also don't work.

I just had someone tonight ask me how I did started mine cause she always wanted them herself and I directed her to this site :)
