Let's Show The World Natural Dreads!

General Talk

So here's the deal, a bunch of people have this idea of what dreadlocks look like and what they are. Some of this is feed to them by DHHQ, or friends of their's, or even the culture.

I want to show the world natural dreadlocks at all stages of their journey can be stinkin' sweet! But how are we going to do this?

Well, with 3 easy steps:

1) Get a Pinterest account if you don't have one already. Post your username below so I can add you to the board.

2) Use DreadlocksSite and the rest of the internet like you normally do.

3) When you see a dreadhead with natural dreadlocks (see more info below), click on that red button with a P on it to your right. Submit the picture to the correct board (titled: Natural Dreadlocks).

That was easy, wasn't it?

Alright, so the point of this board is to feature natural dreadlocks. To keep it that way, check in the user's profile that they have chosen to go natural. I don't really care how the dreads started, as long as they are not using products and junk any more!

If you would like to checkout the board here you go:

Get at it guys! Let's show the world some natural dreadlocks!

A lot of dreadies here use BS:ACV and Dr.B's.

Thank you for informing me. I think I was maybe scrubbing to hard. Is there any shampoos that you think are best to use?

Hair That DreadheadHQ Is Proud Of

dread wax and dread kits recovery

I could totally see that happening. When I had wax my pores were clogged and I had a bit of acne (I normally have none). I also couldn't lay my head against anything (e.g. my couch) without getting it too layered in wax.

Wow, I'm happy that I'm past that point in my journey now!

Imagine how heavy dreads with wax in them must be, like a candle. Has anyone previously used wax and experienced headaches, did they go away during the wax removal process? Just curious.....

Joey, don't worry about it. Now that you know, just go from here and let your dreadies do their thing.

Ashleigh started her dreadlocks the same way and after 18 months of going natural, her's turned out good! http://dreadingmylocks.tumblr.com/

I'm prob even more stupid. I too bought the kit for over a hundred bucks and never even used it because I was still scared it wouldn't work. Soooo........instead I spent ANOTHER 400 hundred bucks to get them done at the salon, only to find this site a few weeks later. 500 dollars for nothing

Hair That DreadheadHQ Is Proud Of

dread wax and dread kits recovery

Before I knew the truth about how dreadlocks are formed, I purchased the most expensive dread kit from DreadheadHQ back in July and got started working on my locks soon after. They include a newsletter called "Lock-Up-Dates".

Well, today I found the 3 month newsletter update sitting in my inbox. They tell you exactly how your "dreadlocks" should be looking, what to expect, and what to do.

"If you have dreads that have a locked core in part of the dread and are looser in another part you can add a small amount of wax to the looser part and skip the part of the dread that's tight. " - Knotty Jonny C.

I personally had trouble with dread wax around month 2 when I found a bunch of dirty wax stuck in my dreadlocks (I already went into that story on my blog, so click on that link if you want to see my pictures and stuff) . " Locked cores" was what I had with all dreads that had w ax gunked up in them !

Below are a few of the pictures from Dread headHQ displaying what you should expect at month 3 :

( There used to be more pictures here, until I was asked to remove them.)

So many of these have the appearance of waxy candles, I feel terrible for guys above who fell into the DHHQ trap.

I have been using Dawn dish soap and Wax B-Gone from Dreadlock Shampoo with success. If you have used wax, even lightly like I did, work on getting that dread wax out !

Flat and loopy?

Introduce Yourself

I back combed to start my dreadlocks and as soon as I stopped using wax they have been forming into all sorts of cool shapes! This picture is from a month ago and they are still doing crazy things.
