If I had an oily scalp, I would put my finger on the scalp and sniff the finger, ta-da, smelled the scalp!

Cleaning Repost

Dread Maintenance

Hey. Its probably just a bit too short to do much. Is it the liquid ( it knots like crazy) or the bar (a bit more conditioning, but will definately still knot)? I think it is just the length though, probably a few months at least before it is long enough.

Hemp Shampoo bar. Works Great!!

General Talk

I have finally found a local (Australian) shampoo bar that works great.

Ingredients- Saponified oils of Olive, coconut, cert. organic palm, castor, hemp seed and almond, lemon and lavender essential oil.

http://www.quintessencesoaps.com/

Apple Cider Vinegar ph conditioning rinse is required, according to the maker, 20ml to 200ml (herb infused) water.

I have used it a few times, and it seems to wash out easily, I have hard water, I've had no problem with lathering and rinsing. Dreads feel very clean. It is not as nice as dreadlockshampoo.com, dreads are not as soft, but it works and I can afford it at the moment, if one day I can afford DLS again then I will definately get it again, it is the best for sure. The shipping is too much to Australia for me, it is great value other than that though.

Seriously what's the best maintenance for dreads?

Dread Maintenance

Different hair types dread differently. There is so much wrong information out there, its hard to know what to believe. All hair dreads, period, and keeps dreading, don't mess with it and it will dread. But if you expect no free hair (loose hair) then you will be disappointed and feel you will need to do something, if you can accept your hair type for what it is, then you are on easy street. Some hair needs to be four inches long before it dreads, some longer, some shorter, so you will have some free hair that long, some hair will get caught in dreads, so you wont see it, but when those hairs that don't get caught up do dread, they will shrink up in no time and you either wont see it any more or it will make a little dread of its own, but then you will have some more free hair doing the same thing again, so there is always free hair, keeping your hair washed, like super clean, means it all gets caught up sooner, generally. Washing dreads hair. The cleaner it is the quicker the dreads mature too.

Loops

Dread Maintenance

I think, if you tame the loops, you stop the dreads. The loops are your hair dreading.

Coconut Oil...

Dread Products

It is a common hair conditioner all over the world. I havn't used it on my hair, but I use it on my sons, undreaded two years old hair, it can look a bit oily for a day or so, but it seems to sort it self out. It is great for skin, and soaks in quite quickly and is not greasy at all. I would use it on my dreads without worrying at all, it can't harm. I would just oil up my hands and rub it on, perhaps just a little bit at a time, until I was satisfied with it.

Having faith and receiving help

General Talk

Thankyou, I agree to an extent. But I don't think the worries can be lessened, I believe only with faith can the worries be truly lessened. We have everything we need now, and the worries are not lessened. There are people in the world being tortured and killed and their loved ones only have there spiritual beliefs to help them through, I am referring especially to the Tibeten monks, they have their practise and they some how remain happy, I have heard stories from India, where women have been held against their will, and tortured and they remain firm in their faith and smile, that is a story told many times within the Brahma Kumaris. I lost both parents suddenly, in seperate incidents and my faith got me through. So, if faith can sustain us in these types of situations, surely in our day to day lives, we can understand that faith is enough, it is more than enough. I believe without it, we need to be sustained materially, and that will lead us only to a downfall, and definate unhappiness.

Having faith and receiving help

General Talk

Hello, and peace to all. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Last month we were pretty much broke, with four kids and Christmas coming, we were a little bit worried how we would provide for the family. I have been a spiritual person for some time, and have been through some pretty full on stuff and sometimes my faith is all I have had. So, I have had the experience of faith, and said to my partner, "don't worry, everything will be alright, we will be provided for, lets just have faith". My partner didn't really agree, and kept on freaking out, and we were having disagreements and so on. All I could say is, have faith, it will be ok. I think because I have had the experience of my spirituality providing everything I need, I was able to 'hand over' any worries to my faith, but my partner may not have had that experience, so she was really worried. But, we were provided for, almost the exact amount of money we needed came to us, through some unexpected ways, I believe it was to show us that we are looked after, and as a sign. I then said to my partner, see, we are provided for, and I was thankful, but she was still worried and unhappy, even after the thing she was worried about was fixed. And again yesterday, I was given some money, and today, I had to spend that exact amount, to the dollar, unexpectedly. Please don't think I am believing spirituality is a materialistic thing, but I think we are being given signs to remember we are provided with everything we need, as long as we have faith. But again today, my partner dismissed this gift as coincidence. I want to donate alot of our old cloths, and old toys to charity, to give some thing back, whatever we can, but my partner wants to sell this stuff on ebay to make a little bit of money, I think this is a mistake. I would love to hear what anyone thinks about this stuff, or if I am being unreasonable.

peace and blessings.
