Why its handy to do a BS/ACV wash regularly

Dread Maintenance

I found that just doing a BS/ACV monthly and then using regular shampoo however often you wash your hair kept all the build up and such under control. I was pretty surprised when I realised it was the buck's county soap that was causing the buildup but it could just be a testament to the quality of the water at my house. :|

Why its handy to do a BS/ACV wash regularly

Dread Maintenance

Let me start off by stating something,

Even though it works great and is what I use as my regular shampoo, The dreadlockshampoo.com soap still leaves residue. All shampoo will leave some level of residue, particularly if you're like me and wash with bore water. I had a problem in my first few months of dreading with shampoo residue building up around the side of my head, leaving the base of those dreads sticky, smelly and looking pretty rank.

I'd been using just dreadlockshampoo.com soap for about four months at that time so I decided to do a BS/ACV wash just to see how it went and it did an awesome job at clearing up the residue that was building up.

I kept doing the BS/ACV wash once every month or two just to keep the build up in check and to generally get a level of cleanliness that the regular shampoo couldn't quite get but over the summer I didn't get time to do a BS/ACV wash because of various reasons.

So I went all up about 5 months without doing a BS/ACV wash and when I finally got a chance to do one, I found a huge amount of dirt and dust had been collecting in my hair.

My point is, it's important to have a regular BS/ACV wash to keep residue and dirt from building up, particularly if you use hard water for your regular washes. find somewhere you can get clean water from, in my town you can get drinking water from almost any tap so I get a large bottle and use that for my washes, if that's not possible then you could also try getting a large bottle of spring water. It'll make the process of locking faster, it'll keep your hair from getting stinky, dirty and sticky. Just do it.

Separating Questions

General Questions

3 months is probably the most fun because you can see it all starting to happen. :P if you're going for thinner dreads then maybe do all your separating over 2 or 3 days rather than a week and just sort of restart the cycle once you finish because they have a habit of totally fusing in a week(I'm okay with it as long as it's not huge but it may not be the look you're after)

Separating Questions

General Questions

How far in are you? they like to congo a lot in the first few months then settle down after a while. Ultimately it comes down to whether or not you're okay with having a few bigger dreads, I'd say ditch the olive oil unless your hair's really against separating. In my experience I've found that separating too much can slow things down a little and it works better to spread separating out over the week, focus more on the back or whatever side you sleep on because it'll be the most trouble. as for the bead, if it's restricting movement then defs take it out and maybe wrap it up instead so at least if it starts to congo you know what goes where. if they're attached and sort of webbing up at the roots then that's pretty normal.

Most interesting thing your hair's gotten stuck to

General Talk

These are all great, I get the feeling I'd be laughing uncontrollably if I was getting sucked into a fly ribbon and SE, mugwort sounds like a pain. One time I was was walking and being 17 I had my head down looking at my phone or something and didn't see the tree branch sitting perfectly at head height I was walking straight into, It ran straight along my scalp grabbing a firm grip of any hair it could. Needless to say I was stuck for a while.

Most interesting thing your hair's gotten stuck to

General Talk

So if you're anything like me then your hair doesn't just like to get stuck to other hair but also things that aren't attached to you so I'm wondering what's the weirdest place you've got your dreads stuck on?

Personally I've gotten my hair stuck to tv remotes, car doors, car windows, buttons, zippers, the headstock of a cheap classical guitar (one of the one's with the cheap tuning pegs that have all sorts of holes and edges to get stuck on) (that was a scary one), cymbal stands, xbox controllers, earphones (countless times) trees, (not only painful but so easy to do) knives, forks, (I eat like a caveman) hats, tool handles, velcro, other people (I think), pegs, and dvd cases as well as a bunch of other things probably.

That's all in one year so I'm wondering what some you who've had your dreads for way longer have become involuntarily attached to

2 month "dreads" are coming undone

Help! Save My Dreads

Yeah, That's all completely normal, TnR basically defines the sections and then they come undone while staying in the sections you made and starting knotting up naturally, try not to pull out loose hair because that disturbs the knots that are forming, it's a hard habit to kick once you start but it helps the dreads. Just keepseparating (Be careful to not split sections in half by accident), keep washingand wait a few months and you'll see those sections of undone hair start goingberserk, just takes time.

Going veg and need a hand

Dreads and Diets

That's awesome guys thanks a lot. I'm not too sure about growing my own food because whenever we try and grow vegetables they don't last long and we're thinking its our soil. I've got the day off thanks to a migraine and a cold I've had since last week so I can look into all this. Speaking of which, my parents seem to think eating vegetarian is less healthy than being omnivorous?

Going veg and need a hand

Dreads and Diets

Hey siblings, so I've been wanting to go ovo-lacto vegetarian for a long time and originally my plan was to start that after I moved out but I figured I'd start while I was still with my parents because my mother's almost a dietician in her own right. She's given me a few weeks to work out what I'm going to eat and she's giving me some help on the way.

the twist is that I have a weekly budget of $100 and after those few weeks I'm totally on my own aside from said budget. I've done some googling and I've gotten some books but the problem is that pretty much the only recurring ingredient for lots of the stuff I've come across is lentils and tofu, neither are a problem for me but it won't be fruitful to have a few recipes with no ingredients in common because I'll end up spending too much money on bits and pieces that expire before they can be used up. Since this forum has so many vegetarians and vegans I'd imagine you guys would be able to help heaps here.

But long story short, I need a hand with getting some recipes that have lots of ingredients in common so I'm not wasting heaps. I'm not too fussed on what I eat though I would prefer more vegetables than mock meats and the processed junk that I see in stores, so long as I get the right stuff to function I'm pretty happy.

Thaaaaaaanks everyone.

After dreadlocks????

General Talk

That one's got me terrified. Though the worst outcome could be my friends sparking a guerilla war of head and facial hair shaving. Hopefully no one tries to shave my head in my sleep though.
