~HELP PLEASE.....~ I have no dreads just yet but really need some loving input/advice....please...

dread wax and dread kits recovery

I have fine, naturally blonde hair and I am 17 days into my natural no-interference dreads. I estimate that it is going to be a two year commitment until I really start seeing what most people would consider as dreads. However, I am willing to do this because I have thought about dreads for a long time and I have researched them, and I know that this is the best way for me. I have photos on my page if you want to check them out. I have 100% faith that with patience and NO COMBS my hair will dread. It has already started to knot up in the bottom of the back. Why not just give time and patience a chance? :)

mama cloth and menstrual cups!

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Personally, I tried the DivaCup for an extended time and I didn't like it. But I super <3 my GladRags, which are a washable, non-disposable flannel pad. Super comfie, super clean, super no more rash from questionable materials in trashy disposables. It's just so much better this way! :P

I don't miss not combing!

General Talk

@SE- whoopsie! I totally didn't realize that AT ALL until you pointed it out! I guess all of those Spanish language classes (where double negatives are correct grammar) must have really rubbed off on me. :D

I hope not to be using a comb for a long time.

I don't miss not combing!

General Talk

I have always had tangly hair. I'm on day 8 since hiding my brush and comb, and let me tell you I do not miss them one single bit! I am also kind of shocked at how *great* (boy, I sound like quite the bragger here, but man, I am just genuinely shocked!) my hair looks after more than a week of not combing. Actually, I am a little disappointed to tell the truth because it looks like maybe I just went one day without combing it or something. It's like, dude... could you please tangle up a little faster!?

But on a serious note, I have felt really happy every single day of my dread journey so far. No regrets yet... and hopefully none to come! :D

Hm, well, not much to post as we are in the super beginning stages, but nevertheless I would like to have at least one commemorative photo of the first few days of lawless hair.

So without further ado, I present you with the first 5 days of freeform goodness.

Realizations and turning 30

Introduce Yourself

So about a month ago I turned 30. I have been thinking about embracing natural freeform dreads now for 3 years. Turning 30 gave me the extra push that I needed, to go ahead and do what I feel is right. After all, time is a wasting! So on Oct. 1st, I figured there was no better time than the present, and I hid all of my combs and brushes in drawers. I took a water bottle and some baking soda into the bathroom, and started substituting "no touch" baking soda rinses (with one drop of tea tree oil added for good measure) instead of conventional toxic shampoos. I am only a few days into my new routine, but I feel so liberated. My hair definitely doesn't look anything like dreads, but it looks a lot better than usual, and is kind of sexy bedhead, full of volume. I feel so right about this journey on so many different levels-- in how it helps the environment, how it fosters patience, and how I am following my heart.

I am so glad that this site is here for support too, I really enjoy the featured posts and photos, as I don't know any dreadies in real life... it really gives a lot of inspiration. Namaste.

so why is everyone so hateful?

General Talk

Yeah, I have seen this too. And I just totally don't agree with it at all. Let's just call it like it is... racism is racism in either direction. Can't we all just get along...
