Dreading Method

Dreading Methods

I have straight hair too! How long have you actually been neglecting? My hair has taken longer than others....but it dreaded! When you have really short hair it takes longer still...but they come! I have friends who started out with shaved head! They said it was maybe a year or two before it got long enough to start really tangling...it's just part of the process of natural/neglect!The self satisfaction of having the patience is just part of the journey! You can be so much more proud getting there than caving in to impatience for the final result.

Lifestyle vs Dreadlocks

General Questions

I will say that I just recently tried to split a few of my dreads. Like...right before finding this site. One I was successful with only one side...and had to comb out the other...and another I had to end up combing it all out...so....definitely risky

Lifestyle vs Dreadlocks

General Questions

Baba...the no sun and tons of rain thing is EXACTLY why I don't wash my hair as often as your recommendation. It's been raining the last 3 days straight...no chance of sun drying my hair in that!

Introduce Yourself

Well...my first question would be if you have soft or hard water where you live?

If you have soft water...you can use Dr. Bronner's soap. I personally LOVE it...and have never really used anything else in the last 5 years!

If you have hard water... Dreadlockshampoo.com I hear makes some really good shampoos and other products for your dreads!

Personally...even though others would say differently...I think washing your hair every 5-7 days is perfect! It keeps it clean...but not too much to strip the natural oils away from your hair that keep your hair healthy!

Strangers who touch your hair without asking...

Life Issues Facing Dreads

this was years ago when there wasn't much there.

Now I wouldn't do it because it would be in there lap as well. Although...the movie theater here is REALLY roomy and there weren't too many people in it.

it fell down to maybe just past my shoulders then.

Baba, older black women definitely ask to feel my dreads. Younger black women can be racist little (expletive deleted) and just plain jerks. It's sorta funny how that works. People who are so fast to cry racism...and then they are the first to be!

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I only said it cause I've met SO many people in my life....I sometimes can't remember who people are when I encounter them! or WHERE from!

But...it still is a good one. :)

I definitely get people who ask to touch them pretty often! Or if someone is asking questions about them and they have clean hands....I offer if they want to feel them. Like...giving a friend some advice about why not to palm roll dreads...I told her to feel how "soft" non-palmrolled dreads are versus how hard and stiff the ones that had been were!

Life Issues Facing Dreads

Totally true. I've definitely pulled myself back out of reach when I've seen someone coming!

Back in my days of heavy drinking on a frequent basis...like going to live music venues to watch shows....or just hanging out at the bar...I've definitely been the douche to come up behind some of the dreadies with long pretty hair and "petted" them. I usually got away with it and was told that I was excused since I had my own mature dreads....
