DREADLOCK SECTIONING

General Questions

thank you so much for your comment and help Barrellady. Idealy, I would have let them sectionnaturally, butI'm only getting partial dreads and dreading the bottom section of my head, that's why I chose to do the twist and rip and grid pattern. ! But I tookSoaring Eaglesand youradvice and made themno bigger then a quarter ! So again, thank you for the help :):)

Izzy, the ideal way for dreads is to let your hair section naturally for at least a couple of weeks. After that time if you want to do the twist & method, you can use the naturally formed sections. All you will need to do is separate any sections that are larger than the 1 inch. This way they will be in random areas instead of the grid pattern as Soaring Eagle said. Hope this helps you....Peace

DREADLOCK SECTIONING

General Questions

Hello. I'm finally dreading my hair again and I was wondering if I can get some opinions on the size and if it looks correct. I tried to make them half an inch to an inch.

Thank you ! :)

Introduce Yourself

Hi Aaron :) I agree with Amanda about people always going to be judging you ! But, it truly is just hair, and YOUR hair afterall lol. A lot of parents don't really like them, but will learn to accept them eventually ahah! But if it really is a issue you could consider twist and rip !! Thats what I did. They look really neatcompared to the natural process. But youre so far in the natural it would be such a shame to comb them out :( Keep going strong and continue with your dread journey. Good luck and post some pictures !!

Love and peace.

This sight has tons of good information on sectioning dreads. Covers everything to patterns, dread shape and size, and how they will lay.

General Questions

Hello amethyst , noI don't think it matters if they are squares. It's actually better if you let themsection themselves. I think your sectionssound completely fine ! And keepFredlol ! It sounds like hes of good use ahaha. I did start over, I took them out and I'm waiting for my friend to come over and section them :(:( .I don't thinkI'm going to do squares, I might section them as circlesor ovals. ButI want them to varie in size, I want to have some big and some small,( but definetly not too big, not making that mistake twice ) ! And if youre still worried about them ( they sound fine though! ) then just post some pics !!! Good luck :)

Hmm... well mine to look similar but I have about 40 dreads now, with new ones forming.. After reading what SE said, I had a good session of staring at my hair in the mirror.. LOL! I think most all of them are well under an inch... I do have one kinda big one underneath on the bottom to one side, but I'm planing on leaving it. I've been using that one to wrap around the others when I need to look somewhat presentable.
So I have that one that's kinda big, but I shall call him Fred and keep him LOL! But now after looking at them closely... Does it matter if they are actually squares? cause I let my hair section itself . The sections are all different shapes and sizes.. but except for that one, they are from about pencil size to sharpie size...... that's the best way I can describe it, and that is at the section, not the dread itself.. Think I'll be ok?

Izzy, did you end up starting over?

General Questions

Oh no this is so sad ! But at least its better to find this out now then later.I dont want to split them because I dont want to do something I've never done. So SE,how much dreads do you think I should have approximately if I use the same amount of hair? Also, how big should I make my sectionsthis time around ?

soaring eagle said:

Are my sections too big ?

General Questions

Oh no!!! Iactually had noidea that the dread thickness will be equivalent to the section. Thats interesting. :(:(:( This is so depressing. Thats true it could have been worse. Thank you so much Adam :)

Adam Kelly said:

Yeah Izzy, I think they are too big. The dread will be the thickness of the section when it is finished shrinking and maturing. They will be some massive dreads. You need big and small sections for it to look good. I think you should brush them out, since you are only 3 weeks in. It could have been worse right!? But wait to see what others think, too.
