Pics of the inside of a couple of my dreads that PROVE how great dreadlock shampoo really is!!!

For the record, I don't know the lady that makes the dreadlock shampoo, and I don't get anything for promoting it. It's really just that good! :)

Pics of the inside of a couple of my dreads that PROVE how great dreadlock shampoo really is!!!

Dread Products

It's been awhile since I've been on the site. After looking around a bit I realize how much I miss you guys. If you look back at my profile you'll see that I adopted a special needs 2yr old (he's now 4), we've also adopted his special needs brother, he'll be 13 next month. So that is my excuse for being away.

Ok so, the dreadlocks shampoo from this site...
3yrs ago, I started my first set of dreads, that lasted about 3 months. I really mucked it up. I didn't use wax but I used all kinds of stupid products that have no business in anybody's hair. I did back comb and T-n-R. The sections were way to huge. So I brushed them out. I can tell you, THAT will never happen again. After only 3 months, brushing them out was torture! I'm very tender headed.

So today at about 2.5 years, I had one dread that stubbornly decided to join with another one at the tip. There was no ripping it apart, believe me I tried. It was turning into a big ball at the very end. I also had one little silly dread ball hanging off another dread that was causing me dread stress. So long story short, I separated the huge one. This involved a lot of sawing and ripping and sawing and ripping, but it was only a couple inches at the very tip of the dread. I would have never done that to the full length of a dread.

I got as much separated as I could and kinda ripped and chopped the big ball off the bottom and ripped off the silly little dread ball from hanging off the of another dread. I haven't don't anything but was and separate for the entire 2.5 years. AND... I used NOTHING but dreadlock shampoo and 1 jar of the lock gel. I only use it to tame things down a bit when I need to look "respectable", haha....

Here are the pics of the inside of what I ripped off a few minutes ago. If you see anything that looks like it might be lint or anything, it's not. What you are seeing is SHINE reflected back to the camera. Absolutely nothing was inside these dreads. They were absolutely 100% clean.

I wash my dreads 1 to 2 times a week. That's all it needs and I used to be the person that washed my hair every single day or it was so oily I couldn't stand it. Actually for the last few months I've only washed once a week. A lot of people think the dreadlock shampoo is too expensive, let me tell you it's not. I buy 2 bottles a year! I also bought 3 of the bars that I used in between sometimes, but they barely look used at all. I've had them well over a year! So it's the cheapest I've ever spent for my shampoo.

I'm too long winded.... here's the pics. I know I know, I need to get some new pics of my dreads up. I don't enjoy selfies lol! But I'll try to get some posted soon.

dreaddy family in need of all sorts of advice

Help! Save My Dreads

I'm sorry I made you feel like I was looking down my nose at you. I guess you are in the same situation I was in. It was one of the worst experiences of my life, it was my whole family and extended family that came around us. One of my sister's kids ended up really sick from them, the Dr. said he was allergic to the actual lice. My daughter had a reaction to the treatment shampoo, but it wasn't near as bad as the lice, so I'd do it the same way again.
I do apologise for making you feel bad. I wanted to put it out there strongly because it can effect other people besides you. Even the person that might be standing in line beside you at the grocery store. I know people here push "all natural", but when it comes to something like this, I think a one time dose of chemicals does a lot less damage than the bugs, and keeps other people from going through the same misery. Like I said, I lost friends over it, because I refused to put myself, my kids, or my extended family through it again, and all they had to do was take care of it. They could have been gone in a day...

According to Web MD, a site that makes absolutely no profit from lice shampoo..
Lice are a parasite and considered an infection.
Sores on the head, neck, shoulders, can also become infected.
and...
" Occlusion therapy, nit combing, and hair removal have not been proven to be fully effective in completely eradicating head lice.

Home remedies that have been tried include vinegar, mayonnaise, petroleum jelly, olive oil, butter, rubbing alcohol, and prolonged water submersion. These all fail to eliminate infestation, because these therapies do not kill all of the eggs or lice. This is believed due to the specialized way the parasite "breathes."

I've never made a negative posts in the year that I've been part of the site, I've never looked down on anybody in my life. It just seemed that you were worrying about other dready issues, when before any of that you need to get the lice gone, for your families sake and the people around you....

Help! Save My Dreads

Wow... I sure hope you aren't sending your kids to school with lice. Personally I wouldn't worry about anything but getting rid of the bugs! It's just not healthy! Organic, natural, residue, whatever... get rid of the bugs. I'd be quite upset if my kids went to school with your little guys. It's horribly disrespectful to put other's through the whole lice thing. Get some lice shampoo and some lice spray and get the bugs gone. Think about other people PLEASE! You're spreading them around!
I find it odd that you're worried about separating and how to shampoo and well... EVERYTHING else, while there are bugs crawling around in your hair, and I'm absolutely positive that you've passed them on to other people.
You seem really nice and sincere, but have your priorities completely out of whack Please take care of this, for your families health and so other's don't have to deal with it. And forgive me for being so blunt about it. You can ask others here, I'm not a mean or disrespectful person, but my family had lice, and I later found we got it from some dear friends of ours that wouldn't take care of it. We're no longer friends, because I couldn't stand getting lice everytime they came around. Please don't do that to your friends and family. My daughter also had a horrible reaction to the lice shampoo, and my mother an sisters got them from us. It made our lives miserable for quite some time. If you can't think of anything else, at least realize what you may be putting those close to you through....

Good luck and take care and don't hate me...

Super greasy hair on my forehead? Don't know what to doooo

General Questions

The Pink Himalayan Sea Salt spray that you can find thru this site will help too! My hair went crazy when I started using it. In fact I had to stop using it so frequently because my hair was dreading too fast... I was having a hard time keeping up with separating. It's awesome stuff!

Naturally the salt will dry your hair out some so it will help and put it in the perfect shape for dreading. You might use it on your whole head or just your bangs. Just experiment and see what's right for you :)

Note: I'm in no way affiliated with the shampoos or sea salt spray. I just push it because it's THAT good :)

When can i start decorating?

Dread Accessories

When I started I put a few beads in places that wouldn't stay separated and they became permanent. I kept a couple, but since I used wooden beads, I just squeezed them with a pair of pliers and got them off pretty easily. So decorate away, just maybe use something that can be broken off if you decide you don't want it anymore.
I did a wrap with embroidery thread, and it almost got eaten, it was way harder to get out than the beads. So, that's my experience :)
Good luck!

Big Girl Dreads

Introduce Yourself

I'm about the same size as you Jackie, but about 1.5in taller. I think we rock. I prefer curvacious women (not a come on.. lol..) My GF is beautiful and the love of my life.

I have no issue at all with my weight. Do I wish I was thinner? Well... I wish I was in a little better shape, but even at my smallest and best, I was never thin. I used to do really physical work (drove a concrete mixer and worked concrete). I weighed about the same, I was just a little firmer (and younger) ;)

I have noticed that a lot of people (men and women) with dreadlocks are thin, a lot of them are also vegetarians, or follow some type of veggi-type diet. Maybe that's why we aren't so easy to find. I'm not ready to give up my steak just yet though. Who knows what the future holds for me though. I do feel a growing need to be more in-tune with my body, and pay more attention to what I put in it :). Still, on the weight issue, I'm more concerned with being healthy than being "thin".

We really need a group. I'll try to work on that when the baby goes to bed tonight :) I excited to think of all the things we could discuss openly without any judgement.
