General Questions

Thankyou ! (:

nope no waiting, wash when they start to seem dirty/oily. if you used a starter method there may be some loosening or "falling out" (less with backcomb than tnr) but it's a process of loosening & tightening, things have to move to knot. a clean head makes for happy dreads!

so i dont have to wait a certain time period to wash my hair? & what about the new baby dreads i backcombed?

Ixchel said:

dirty hair won't knot, oils make the hair slip instead of catch. baby dreads should be washed with a non-residue shampoo (bs/acv or dreadlockshampoo.com are good options) 2-3 times a week or whenever you feel they need it. washing helps knot by messing it around too!

so i just not wash my hair for about 2 wks then wash it regularly ?

General Questions

so i brushed out my dreads and im starting over, i have my bottom half dreaded and some other random ones, backcombed some less than a week some more than a month, the ones on the bottom half and flat and im guessing thats because of me sleeping, but after washing i also have textures that are very smooth, they still stay together though. And when i backcombed some new ones tits like the hairs dont want to stay together lol, i have lots of loose hair and they're easy to pull apart, maybe cause they're thicker so its more hair? but i dindt have a problem like this with my bottom half?ill probably finish the rest of my head in the next two weeks, i also have a friend who did TnR and mines are older but hers look more mature and are locked up nice? i have no idea how to do that method no matter how many videos i watch, the pictures are examples

Flat dreads

General Talk

Alright, well im feeling around my hair and it feels like a unpleasent feeling i wouldnt say sticky but dry and unhealthy

Baba Fats said:

Hard water vs. soft water is dependent on how much undissolved minerals, like limestone, shale, or granite, are in the water. Soft water has very few. Hard water has a lot.

Different areas have different water. Because of the hardness of the water, BS doesn't always dissolve completely. It may look like it does, but it's just gettingdispersedthroughout the water.

Flat dreads

General Talk

i have washed my hair more than twice sorry i phrased it wrong, and what do you mean by hard water?>

Baba Fats said:

Ok, don't worry about flat locks:

You should be washing more often. Twice in over 3 weeks is going to make your hair kind of gritty. You should be washing 2-3 times a week.

If you have hard water, the BS doesn't dissolve and won't wash out well, but that would usually leave a sticky goo, or flakes. So I'd bet it because you haven't washed your hair enough

Curious Questions about how you face things with dreads

Life Issues Facing Dreads

Hi, i was just curious on how people cope with the dirty looks, or if you get dirty looks or people discriminating against you, people calling you names. In my opinion i've never been the one to care, but i've been called snakehead medusa bob marely sean paul and got dirty looks given to me from lets say the "Pretty group of girls" in school, How does everyone else reply to these comments ? :)
