Pretty much every morning and definately after a wash, my dreads are super ziggy and loopy. I have tried to ignore it but I cant stand it because my hair is so fine that each one is so noticeable.
I have a few that I can just pull on and like a sleeve it slides down inner hairs and straightens out.
So, I have found that if I grab each dread one by one and start at the root and run my fingers down to the ends it somewhat takes out these ziggies until the next wash. I realize that the loops and such are caused from the process of my hair slowly locking so if I do this every time I wash, is it like i am unlocking what was recently locked? Almost like brushing with my fingertips. Any thoughts?
Sorry if I asked a question that has been asked, I am still trying to learn this site!!!!
Thanks a bunch. It seems like this past month I have weird dreams about my dreads falling out or turning out to be complete opposite of what I was trying to achieve. This website really helps!
I have had my dreads for a little over a month now and I did them myself with the rip & twist method. I had very little help in sectioning my hair and now I am concerned. Some sections are more circle or square like and I have a few that are almost a straight line. My hair is fine and I dont have a lot of it so the sectioning was hard to keep organized. So is this ok? Will this cause them to be weak? Will they dread awkwardly? I dont want to have complications when wearing different styles in the future!
Any reasurrance would be great!!
I had done pretty much the exact same thing. Only I used twist and rip method and crochet.I purchased wax after a couple of weeks - waxed up then read this site the next day. I freaked and while I was camping I just went into a little gas station (cause they didnt really have stores) where I was at and bought some Dawn.
I washed teh crap out of my hair let it dry and washed again. Some of my tiny dreads fell out but, my head feels so much better. I laughed so hard when I realized I had purchased my products from DreadheadHQ. Prettyupset about the waste but thankful for this site!! Suprisingly though my hair seems to lock up really fast and I dont think I would have ever used any product if I knew how smoothly this would go for me!
I would say this is the most frustrating part anout the dread process. I am always having to keep them separated at the roots. Sometimes I have to rip them apart and it worries me because its umcomfortable to hear your hair ripping and I dont want to lose my hair.
