I had a dread in the back do that. And it got so tight that it had to be split cause it was uncomfortable. My boyfriend took a pocket knife and cut it in half. One side came out big and the other is tiny but they are apart. Not recommending anything but my point is...don't worry. Give it time. They can always be split if need be.

Lint Attack

Introduce Yourself

I have recently seen a lot of lint in my dreads and when I started this journey I had no idea how the lint gets so intertwined in each dread. almost too much to clean out everyday. so does everyone just let the lint live there or try to keep them lint free? Curious to kmow what each person thinks about the lint buddies!

Flat Dreads

Introduce Yourself

I don't....I just let em hang!! Would they get moldy if I wrapped some of them or put beads on them while wet?

Flat Dreads

Introduce Yourself

My dreads are about 7 months old and most of them are super flat on the ends. they are super tight now and I was wondering if they will round themselves out more. I have lost about 9 inches in lenght so now I am just waiting to watch them grow. You think they will stay flat on the ends?

Crochetting dreads is evil!

Dreading Methods

When i started my dreads arou d the fourth of july, i TnR and crochet a few. Now most of my dreads are looped up and way shorter from knotting up except the few I crochet. The spots next to my scalp are thick and towards the ends they look braided and still thin. So, those select few, I have to comb out so they can dread. My hair was down to my lower back and now most of it is above my shoulders except those I crochet. So its a set back but i want them too all be natural looking. Sorry about the crochet word mispelling and use of past tense.....that word confuses me!!

Another thing....when I first put them in I crotchet a few of them and now I am having to comb out those because they don't dread. they stay thin and basically braided. soo happy I found this site right when I started my journey

I am completely cool with it but I was just curious to know if when they smooth out of the length comes back a little or not. My mind hasn't processes the actual process of the dreads compacting and becoming smooth.

My zig zags and loopy loops!!

Dread Maintenance

I have let mine do what they want since I posted this...they are crazy, but I can dig it! I have two in the back that have came together and formed a neat congo. The only thing I do now is try and keep them separated.(except for the congo..I like that one). Sometimes I find that a challange, ecspecially after washes too.
