dreadlocks and how they change you

Member Journals and Timelines

Cool man...... I liked this yarn, my first set of dreads i cut off because i was drunk and didn't like the constant attention of being "that guy with dreads" man oh man that was a bad day after!!!!! second set i cut off because i thought i needed to do it to get a job.... (i know another great reason aye)..... I guess iwasn'tready for thejourneyat that stage... now it seems i am, i have made peace with me and now they can grow with me!!! i get asked all the time if i would cut this lot off and to be honest yeah i would in a second if it was time to do it...... you summed it up nicely and in doing so i am sure you will strengthen the resolve of others to look to themselves and do what they need to do.............. Ka mate te kainga tahi, ka ora te kainga rua...... (As one house dies a second house lives, a maori proverb about the newbeginnings) Kai Kaha e hoa (Keep strong myfriend)

I am a Freshwater Ecologist/Hydrographer.... i basically get paid to act like a ten year old, i catch bugs and fish, build dams and fly about in helicopters looking at how much rain has been falling.... been at it about 9 years and have been dreading for a year now... again no worries with the dreads, there'sa few of us knatty folk running about... i deal a lot with kids and they think dreads areawesome, and it is amazing how well you can get along with the staunchest farmer here when you shock them withcompletelynormal no BS conversations.

Tena Koe Dread Whanau

Introduce Yourself

Tena Koe Koutu (greetingsto you all).........

As most of you canprobablyrelate to i have been visiting this site for a fair time now and have been stoked to find the wealth of information that is here.

I am a third time dready and doing it "right" this time..... used quick fixes in the past and.... well as i say third time at it!

I see posts on why we are taking this journey and all i can say i "because it is me" i look in the mirror and i see dreads.... i know profound insight right!!

i surf and i live my life in nature and work with the manybeautifulnative species our country. I have theprivilegeof sharing my knowledge and passion for my environment with others (through my work)..... i believe in trying to leave this place we stand a little better off than when we got here!!!

Well i guess that is the (very) watered down version of me...... feel free to say hey and ask me anything else you may want to know (about me or Aotearoa (New Zealand))

Aroha Nui (Much love)

General Talk

Kind of nice to read this..... because i am the way i see me i find it easy to let comments slide, but it does wear you down when you don't have the full support you would giveunconditionally. As others have said stay strong (Kia Kaha in maori) and others will realise that we are just being ourselves and love us all the more for it!!
