"real" meaning of dreads/king solomon?/negative encounters

General Questions

Solomon was a great magician and like Samson his hair (dreads?) Had never been cut and it was believed to be the source of his strength and power. I don't know much at all about rastafarians, but that's what I know based on my christian upbringing. I'm a pagan myself and one spirit I follow closely is the Cherokee Long Man. He suggested I dread. I still haven't found anything on Cherokee culture as pertains to dreadlocks, but that Long Man asked it of me is proof enough to me that spiritual meaning behind dreadlocks transcends race and religion.

A side of my hair I never knew

Dreading Methods

All my life I've had pin straight hair. I couldn't get it to hold a curl to save my life. But now, two wks into my dreading journey, I have little squiggly, curly dreads on the underside of my hair. I love it! I was planning on rolling them into straight, neat dreads, but I can't bring myself to straighten my squiggles. They're just too cute! Already enjoying my journey <3

Baby dreads and job hunting

dreads jobs employment issues

Well, the last place I worked said that I couldn't have them cuz they're unprofessional. Which I thought was a racist thing cuz I had two co workers with dreads. Both black. You get that a lot around here. Almost everyone over 40 has told me white ppl don't need dreads :/

I went to an interview with them in a ponytail and a scarf tied around my head like a headband and I got hired! She didn't even say anything about my hair! I'm so relieved!

I've been neglecting my hair for 2wks now, and I can't seem to make my hair look professional. At this point, it just looks like I'm a slob and don't take care of my hair. I can see the dreading if I look for it, but it's pretty messy and I have lots of gaps in my hair exposing my scalp. Is there a way to style my hair that won't hurt my dreads but will look professional? I work in the medical field and I wear bandanas and scarves over my crown at all times in public for religious/spiritual reasons.

Dirty looks and negativity

General Questions

I get so many ppl asking how long it's been since I brushed my hair. You shoul see the horror on their faces when I say I can't remember lol. I just laugh. Ppl already knew I was weird, those that can't handle it have already been weeded out. But out in public with strangers, I just get looks to which I reply with a happy smile. Cuz I AM happy! Why should I let them change that?
