Has anyone else seen these videos

Introduce Yourself

Just randomly i decided to watch a Johnny Clean video on youtube and it kinda reminded my fox news. Johnny was using the same tactics of scaring people with false information, and his dreads look so stiff. I kinda got a laugh out of it until i remembered people were actually believing this and buying his bs.

Stereotypes about dreads

General Talk

haha i've been stereotyped to being a pot head since i've had long hair for 5 years, i understand because i am always happy, mellow, and laughing. But i have never smoked weed or done anything, which is really surprising to people and it's also really surprising to people that i want to be an astrophysicist. And when people call me a dirty hippie i don't care because i know i'm a dirty hippie. When people call me a rasta i don't mind that either because who wouldn't want to be identified with a group that spreads peace, love, respect, and unity.

I can't be the only one who has this question

General Questions

well said, and goodexplanationhahaha

soaring eagle said:

well thats very geberalized

only a small percentage feel thtat way that they own the style

and yea many do go to salins because they are unaware that they can dread other ways (in some cases) others fear the stign=ma of poverty and appearing low class thats why someone who might be poor living in the gheto even collectings cans to buy food might wear gucci to at least appear like they got money and class wich is really the fault of the more european population who holds that perception..the assumptionm that the average black mans poor gheto crack addicted whatever ..so even when they are closer to the sterotype they strive to not appear it at the same time

so realy the only ones who do tend to stricktly preffer the natural dreads are religiosly bound to

and because they..the rastas are asociated with marijuana etc others who dread dont want that negative association eveb=n if they smoke and support legalization

its understandable cause so many african americans are sitting in jails for minor cromes the average white man might get a fine for

so the fear of judgement is umderstandable after all they do have it harder still no matter how much you and i might treat everyone as equals socirty still isnt fair and ballanced just look what happened when a black man was elected.. the gop went crazy and doid all they could to make it seem like a black man cant do anytjing right and held our economy abd country hostage to prove that point

anywho im rambling

the salon thinkg is partialy misinformation and social conditioning

the other thing is racism and is just a small percentatige

racism depends i]on misinformation as well

and some ppl are just ignorant

I can't be the only one who has this question

General Questions

First off this isn't meant to offend or be racist what so ever.

But am i the only one who has noticed that Blacks have pretty much claimed dreads as a hair type that they should only have. And although they claim the hairstyle the main way it is done is through salons and with products and all sorts of methods.
Again this isn't meant to offend at all.

I don't understand this site

General Talk

A few weeks ago i was cruising around online and stumbled on this site while looking up "The History of Dreads." The site explained the religious history of dreads and now for style. All this info seemed legit then i looked up the methods the had for how to and they had a Knotty Boy video for backcombing and wax. I left a comment to inform people there is no need to spend money for dreads and on the natural neglect method. After i check a few minutes ago to see if my comment had any replies, it gotcensored and deleted from the website.

How should I start my dreads?

Dreading Methods

same questions i had about 9 months ago, SE told me that tnr is second best to neglect. Being a child of the instantaneous generation i chose tnr, then as my parents found out i was dreading my hair i had to comb them out. So to get dreads i used the civil disobedience method and stopped brushing my hair.

I remember seeing the people saying "Neglect is the best way." and just blowing it off, but it really is amazing if you just live your life dont remember the day you stop brushing so time is not a main focus. I only really remember the month i stopped brushing my hair was like June or July last year hahaha. And it teaches you through the messy stage that you dont need all the things that are being sold to you, you dont need everything right now, and it teaches you not to care what people say.

=^)

Dying Cultures?

General Talk

and culture has always been dying and disappearing its just now that we have people who are conscious of what is going on around the world.

Once man started to conquer was when culture started to be destroyed, but we will always have the art and architecture. Like the Spanish conquering all Latin countries except for Brasil. Spread of Christianity, treating them like animals, teaching them not dressing, behaving, and speaking like a Spaniard is wrong. Destruction of cultures in 2 continents by pretty much one country about 600 years ago.

Although the culture and traditions of the Mayans, Incas, Aztecs and all other native cultures of the Americas were lost due to assimilation, we still have their Pyramids and an understanding of what the culture use to be but it isn't really practiced much anymore

The destruction of culture, imperialism, and assimilation were all things that Che Guevara were fighting against, and he was assassinated by the United States' CIA.

Dying Cultures?

General Talk

Well the same could be said about the counter culture movement in the 60's pretty much. But technology isn't destroying our culture per se but it is the culture right now. My friend put it perfectly, "Our culture only lasts until the new iTouch comes out."

And i believe today's music, music a main thing of culture, is shit. However these were the same thoughts the French Academy in the late 19th century had about the Impressionist artists like Monet and Van Gogh. Which are now considered amazing artists.

So i guess the destruction of culture is the cycle of culture itself haha.
